Under direct supervision, is responsible for obtaining information from arrested individuals; prepares inmate paperwork; enters and deletes information in computer system; assembles and distributes inmate paperwork; receives court documents; calculates ticket fines and/or incarceration time; receives and deposits money; issues authorization release forms; provides information on arrested individuals and inmates; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interviews arrested individuals to obtain personal, criminal history and medical information and prepares inmate paperwork for processing
Enters and deletes booking, court, bond and personal information on arrested individuals in the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS)
Assembles inmate paperwork and distributes to appropriate areas within the Sheriff's Office
Receives court documents and calculates ticket fines and/or incarceration time to be served
Receives money for bonds or tickets and deposits money in safe for distribution to Justice of Peace Courts, County of Bexar, City of San Antonio or Department of Public Safety
Issues various authorization release forms to arrested individuals being released or to other law enforcement agencies receiving arrested individuals
Provides information to the general public on arrested individuals and inmates
Performs clerical functions such as answering telephone, typing, filing and copying
Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and one (1) year general office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of bond process; knowledge of basic office procedures; knowledge of CJIS computer system
Skill to type 45 wpm with no more than 7 errors; Requires recent typing test administered by Workforce Solutions Alamo Career Centers (Please attach a copy of your typing test results to your online application or fax them to (210) 335-2558 by the closing date.)
Skill in interviewing hostile or violent people; skill in operating personal computer and basic office equipment
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to accurately enter and delete data; ability to perform mathematical calculations; ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with arrested individuals, co-workers, other County employees and the general public
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Working conditions are primarily in a jail environment with constant exposure to hostile or violent people and communicable diseases
Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10 pounds
Occasionally moves about the office
Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
Positions self to perform essential functions
Must be able to remain in a stationary position
