Commodity Trader I - Dairy

The Commodity Trader I will provide analysis, market strategy, and hedge execution for core commodity categories across the dairy category. The manager is a data focused role providing input into Commodity Strategies, implementation of those strategies, and tracking the financial results of the Inspire Supply team. This position will provide updates to management on key performance metrics and help execute commodity strategies created along with the rest of the risk management team.

This person is this role will need to be within commutable distance to the Atlanta Support Center and come into the office 4 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Commodity Management strategy

  • Analyze and forecast prices of dairy commodities using fundamental and technical (charting) analysis
  • Track, calculate, and verify the performance of strategies against actual pricing
  • Formulate recommendations on commodity management strategies across the dairy space.
  • Execute strategies within commodity markets in a timely and efficient manner

Risk Management strategy

  • Identify and Quantify risks to dairy commodities (e.g. tariffs, geopolitical instability, disease) the impact of these risks to Inspire Brands
  • Develop a mitigation strategy for these risks consistent with the risk posed utilizing a combination of risk management strategies that could include: forward fixed contracts, futures/options positions, or hedge proxies
  • Educate and update leadership on these risks, periodically updating management as risk changes
  • Develop commodity forecasts of up to 24 months in alignment with business needs and taking into consideration current and future hedges

Support synergy capture

  • Support Procurement and Commodity Management team in identifying potential costs savings initiatives
  • Work with multiple brands and their supplier base(s) in order streamline risk management initiatives and achieve synergies across dairy commodities
  • Write associated business case for justification and pitch to internal stakeholders
  • Implement as approved and monitor performance of commodity-based synergy initiatives

Partner with cross functional stakeholders

  • Provide them with necessary commodity data and analysis to support strategic goals, assist with RFPs, and price change negotiations
  • Follow relevant news sources on information about the global dairy markets important to Inspire and spread appropriate information to others within the organization
  • Assist with reporting key market events and the creation of a routine market update report disseminated to Inspire Brand Stakeholders

Other tasks as assigned by management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Economics or other equivalent and relevant to perform this function required
  • MS in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Economics or similar field preferred
  • 4 - 6 years of Commodity trading, risk management or relevant supply chain experience
  • Experience in dairy risk management

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS or ABILITIES

  • People and results oriented
  • Attention to detail and the accurate handling of large volumes of data
  • Excellent presentation, written communication, and oratory skills
  • Deep analytical skills focused on agricultural markets and fundamental Supply and Demand Analysis
  • Expert working knowledge in Excel and Power Point
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg, CQG, Eikon, Prophet X or other charting programs a plus 
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities
  • A passion for commodity markets, risk management, and trading
