This position performs follow-up insurance billing and collection activities on a minimum of 30 claims per day; makes collection calls, verifying accuracy and completeness of claims, contacts insurance companies and collection agencies in regard to expediting payments from various payers for physician’s services.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Insurance verification and obtain authorization for services.

Charge review of professional billing encounters.

Performs collection follow-up duties on specific financial classifications such as commercial insurance, self-pay, Medicare and Medicaid claims.

Makes collection calls to insurance companies and patients to ensure timely payment of claims.

Reviews remittance advices for rejection and accuracy of payment amounts.

Contacts insurance companies regarding posting payments and collection agencies regarding payment reports.

Supports customer service unit in answering billing and collection questions.

Works AR projects as assigned by management.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Excel, medical terminology, insurance reimbursement and medical billing collection techniques and communication skills that involve dealing with confidential information.

High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.

Two to three years of related experience in bookkeeping/accounting and/or medical collection setting.

$16.66 - $24.17 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
