In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the IPS SkillBridge Health, Safety, and Environmental Fellowship Program provides transitioning service members within 180 days of separation from military service an invaluable opportunity to gain civilian work experience. Our program is tailored to support service members in bridging the gap between military and civilian careers by offering hands-on training and industry-specific certifications.
IPS is committed to fostering veteran talent, providing career pathways that align with the unique skills of service members, and sharing our knowledge to facilitate a smooth transition to civilian employment. Through this fellowship, participants will gain a full understanding of the responsibilities of the job position described below, positioning them for successful post-military careers. Upon successful completion of the program, we aim to bring on every fellow as a full-time employee.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for the DOD SkillBridge Fellowship, applicants must:
- Currently an active duty service member
- Has taken any service TAPS/TGPS
- Has received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to the start of the internship
- Meets DoD SkillBridge Qualifications as per DODI 1322.29
Position Responsibilities:
As an IPS SkillBridge Fellow for the Health, Safety, and Environmental Supervisor program you will:
- Learn the administration of environmental and government reporting programs ensuring the location meets the highest standard of awareness, disposals, and conscious purchasing
- Learn and manage performance indicators and HSE dashboards guaranteeing quality of data and communicate information (risk mapping, significant events) appropriately
- Inspect facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, noncompliance and recommend corrective or preventative measures when necessary
- Learn, utilize, and promote lean tools such as: 6s, Visual Management, Value Stream Maps etc.
- Learn, update, develop, and own the continuous improvement processes, metrics, and any associated tools
- Attend trainings discussing new regulations and safe practices
- Coordinate and maintain OSHA and EPA compliance programs
- Develop and implement all safety, emergency, and security programs with related training
- Lead efforts to achieve scorecard/targets within the facility
Qualifications We Prefer:
- 4-8 years in applicable military experience (Degree in Health, Environmental, or Engineering a plus)
- Strong project management skills and process orientation
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite tools
- Ability to be innovative, creative and a proven self-motivated, team-oriented attitude
- Attentive and active listening skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, such as the ability to effectively communicate to all levels within the organization and within the presentation setting
- Experience balancing strategy and execution, ability to get “hands-on” with the business while understanding the processes needed to deliver results
- Ability to perform audits, write and submit reports
- Experience working in lean manufacturing environment while practicing continuous improvement methodologies
Additional Information:
This fellowship is an unpaid training program under the DoD SkillBridge framework. Fellows will continue receiving compensation and benefits from the DoD, remaining in the active-duty status throughout the program.
