Intern, Event Experience

SUMMARY
SHRM’s paid internship program enables students to participate in valuable real-world work experience through a variety of tailored assignments within their areas of interest and fields of study. Students will be tasked with different team specific projects, tasks, and participate in professional development projects and events to prepare them for their future careers. The Event Experience Intern will support the strategy, planning and execution of SHRM’s event portfolio, ranging from our annual conference and specialty conferences to invite-only events.

This is a fall internship that can last up to 8 weeks.

This is a paid internship at a starting rate of $20.00/Hour.

Responsibilities:
  • Ideating entertainment options, vendors, local highlights and other aspects to elevate the attendee experience at SHRM events
  • Researching best practices in in-person and virtual events and the competitive landscape
  • Synthesizing learnings from debriefs and surveys of past SHRM events to apply to future events
  • Connecting the SHRM brand to attendees through assisting with event creative tickets, attendee communications, and activations
  • Supporting the general administrative and project management function of the Events team, including recording key meetings, maintaining project trackers and organizing materials
  • Project Management – working within and outside the department on various projects
  • Carry out division-specific tasks/activities as assigned by the supervisor throughout the duration of the internship
  • Manage deliverables and provide regular updates
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Preferred fields of study (all encouraged to apply): pursuing a bachelor’s in communications, hospitality management, marketing, or other related fields.
  • 0-3 years of relevant work experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience in events is a plus
  • Ability to quickly adapt or learn new technology
  • Ability to simultaneously work and navigate within multiple programs
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Additional Notes
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work environment
  • SHRM does operate under a hybrid work schedule and will require you to be in SHRM’s headquarters in Alexandria, VA on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays will be working remotely.
Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
