What You Will Do
The Mentored Internship Program provides opportunities to gain practical on-the-job experience in areas of Behavioral Health.
The Mental Health Intern III serves to improve access, engagement, and productive participation in Behavioral Health services for individuals and communities through community outreach. Acts as an Internal Liaison and assists with initial brief assessments, introduces patients to evidence based practice/modality programs and services. Facilitates appointments at outpatient clinics when appropriate.

Required Qualifications

Enrolled in a Master's Degree program in social work, counseling/therapy, behavioral health, and/or substance abuse.
Essential Functions

Collaboration and Communication
Complies with all operational policies.
Appropriately receives constructive guidance from immediate supervisor.
Represents the facility to other healthcare professionals, current and potential referral sources and the general public in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Sharp HealthCare.
Preserves the basic human right of expression, decision, action and personal dignity for all patients/families.
Respects the cultural diversity of all patients/families and employees of Sharp HealthCare.
Effectively and collaboratively receives referrals from medical providers, community entities and multidisciplinary team for patients with Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorder. -
Community resource
Refers to internal resources of hospital that can assist patients and families.
Assist with discharge planning for patient and family.
Provides referrals to other services such as shelters, primary health, mental health, social services, sober living and residential treatment.
Establishes a positive relationship with the patient, assesses for treatment options.
Contributes to, and effectively communicates elements of effective treatment options (MAT capable when applicable).
Presents at education programs/events, and internal meetings. -
Customer service
Assist Clinical staff with locating Community Resources.
Assist with referrals to patient's family for ongoing assistance after leaving program.
Assist with facilitating a timely discharge of patients.
Assist staff in answering phones and triaging intake calls.
Collaborates with internal departments to coordinate transition of care. -
Clinical Support
Schedules appointments at (MAT capable when applicable) for ongoing treatment and address access barriers.
Maintains knowledge of community clinics, services and limitations.
Maintains and continually assesses for changes to referral pathways to community clinics.
Completes screening and intervention within hospital guidelines for timeliness.
Documents interventions with patients and post-discharge appointments in EMR. -
Training and supervision
Attends and participates actively in supervision/mentoring every week.
Completes self-assessment of skill development/competence at the beginning and end of each 4 month period.
