Volvo Group Trucks Operations (GTO) is the truck industrial entity within the Volvo Group responsible for Truck manufacturing, including Cab & Vehicle Assembly, Powertrain Production, Logistics Services, Parts Distribution and Remanufacturing. Hagerstown’s group function is Powertrain Production. Powertrain production is one of the world's largest manufacturers of heavy-duty diesel engines for commercial vehicles. Powertrain production provides diesel engines and transmission systems to the Volvo Group Business Areas.

We are currently looking for a student to work with our Logistics team as Packaging Engineer. The student should be prepared to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment; gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of engineering. As a valued member of the Logistics team within GTO, the student will have the opportunity to work directly with the engineering focusing on packaging quality and sustainability. GTO’s goal is to contribute to the student’s development, as well as providing an opportunity for the student to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry. This position will report to Logistics Engineering Manager.

Position Responsibilities
  • Propose packaging solutions for inbound production parts while collaborating with Production, Core Values, Engineering, Supply Chain, Purchasing and external suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for eliminating wastes in supply chain, including, but not limited to packaging, transportation, receiving, warehousing, internal logistics.
  • Prepare business cases for packaging improvements
  • Documenting packaging instructions in Volvo’s computerized packaging database
  • Ensure an uninterrupted flow of material in a safe, efficient, cost-effective manner
  • Support Lean Material Flow principles and initiatives related to packaging by participating in Kaizen activities throughout the facility

Internship Education and Program Requirements
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Packaging or Packaging Design at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies prior to the start of the co-op/internship.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Valid US Work authorization.

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00. The hourly rate for these roles is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, academic classification, and degree seeking area of study.
