Title: International Admission Counselor


Reports to: Associate Director of International Admission


Campus: Queens


Job Summary:

The International Admission Counselor is responsible for developing and executing an effective recruitment strategy to recruit and communicate with prospective international students, their families, and international partners to meet University and Enrollment Management goals.


Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute an effective international recruitment strategy including high school visits, college fairs, guidance counselor events, and virtual events.
  • Primary international travel territories include South Asia and Africa.
  • Research, coordinate, and conduct recruitment initiatives within domestic high schools, targeting international students living and attending high school within the United States.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with international agents and professional associations as assigned.
  • Review undergraduate first year and transfer applications with foreign credentials promptly, consistent with departmental policies. This requires close collaboration with undergraduate transfer admission.
  • Participate in online chats for prospective international students throughout the admission process.
  • Assist with the operations of the Office of the International Admission through admission presentations, interviews, on and off-campus admission events, Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, online chats, outbound call campaigns, and other events and initiatives. This requires cross training with first year domestic and transfer admission processes and the maintenance of a strong working knowledge of these processes to best serve all students through the admission process as needed.
  • Record feedback about events for future assessment.
  • Attend college fairs and host information sessions.
  • Communicate with prospective applicants about their application status and respond to inquiries proactively.
  • Analyze data analytics to ensure that communication initiatives are successful.
  • Support the admission department at events, including occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Assist with promotional materials, social media, and communications to all prospective students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Competencies:

The ideal candidate must be willing and able to travel domestically and abroad, work evenings and weekends and juggle multiple tasks. The ideal candidate must also work well individually and as part of a team. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as a high energy level are essential.

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally on behalf of the University is required.
  • This position is based on the Queens campus and all candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Prior admission experience is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Understanding of discretion related to handling confidential information is required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Technolutions Slate, and Ellucian Banner is preferred.
  • The ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities with short notice and changing deadlines is preferred.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the employee include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30am-3:00pm. Occasional early morning, night, and weekend hours required for recruitment events.


Travel

Travel will be both domestic and international, and overnight travel is required.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $58,500. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.


This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
