Background
International Budget Partnership (IBP) works to ensure that all people, especially underserved communities, have the right and ability to understand and influence how public money – their money – is raised and spent. IBP is a nonprofit organization fiercely dedicated to ensuring governments use public funds to help those that need it most. We partner with budget analysts, community organizers, and advocates in 120 countries to advance public budget systems that work for people. Together, we generate data, advocate for reform, and build the skills and knowledge of people so that everyone can have a voice in budget decisions that impact their lives.
About this role
The Development team plays a critical role in supporting and deepening IBP’s impact by securing the necessary funding to implement programs at the global and country levels. The team manages the organization’s relationships with institutional and individual funders and overall fundraising strategies for IBP. The Institutional Giving Intern will provide key support to the Development team in meeting IBP’s fundraising goals for institutional funders, including foundations, bilateral, and multilateral donors. The Institutional Giving Intern will assist with the development of donor materials such as grant reports and proposals, updating prospect trackers, managing internal processes, and supporting donor cultivation and stewardship.
This position is based in the Washington, DC metro area or New York. This position combines in-person presence (at our Washington, DC, office if based there) with the option of remote work each week. 8-10 hours per week are required. Please note that the specific number of hours may vary week to week depending on the team’s workload.
IBP is a cutting edge, passionate and devoted organization which admires people who can bring new ideas to the table. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to their mission and really make a change.
Information from current position holder:
"As a young professional interested in the fields of international relations, public finance, and development, my time as a Development intern at the International Budget Partnership has greatly contributed to my capacity as an analyst, researcher, and team member. The Development team, which is responsible for fundraising and donor relations, works to ensure IBP’s projects have enough financial support to carry out their objectives. Another key responsibility is ensuring continuity between IBP’s project teams and the donors, which often consists of reporting and communication about the progress of IBP’s projects.
During my time as an intern, a main responsibility of mine was to conduct prospective research on potential donors that may be interested in supporting IBP’s work. I noted immediately that this position is unlike other internships I have done; I never felt as if the work I was doing was insignificant, and I appreciated the independence I was given to complete my assigned tasks. Along with prospective research, I regularly assisted on project reports, proposals, and other important documents. The Development team works seamlessly, and the team dedicated much time to making sure I was properly prepared for the tasks at hand. This position was an excellent first step in pursuing my career in international relations and global development.”
