GIS Developer

Responsibilities

 

Overview:

 

The GIS Developer will join a collaborative team supporting a military customer on-site to deliver advanced geospatial solutions. The primary objective is to convert historical data into a modern, mobile system capable of rapidly measuring and blueprinting internal building structures. This role involves direct interaction with stakeholders to ensure accurate deployment and usability of GIS data.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Support the conversion of legacy CAD and GIS data into an updated catalogue of GIS data holdings while preserving attribution.
  • Deploy GIS data through OGC-compliant web services, data formats, and ancillary datasets to authorized personnel.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and data schemas for georeferencing and importing non-spatial data features into GIS.
  • Publish geospatial data to the web and streamline associated procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions on geospatial techniques and processes for the client.
  • Provide recommendations on future technology purchases and architectural enhancements.

Job Duties:

  • Work with CAD systems and data formats (e.g., .dxf, .dwg, AutoCAD, Microstation).
  • Design and develop geodatabases to support customer requirements.
  • Utilize programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, GDAL, and PDAL for geospatial development.
  • Integrate geospatial data from various sources, including building interior/exterior data, for GIS applications.

Qualifications

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proficiency with modern ESRI Suite, including license management and allocation.
  • Hands-on experience with building interior and exterior data in GIS and CAD.
  • Demonstrated experience with geodatabase design and development.
  • Familiarity with OGC web services for GIS data deployment.
  • Intermediate-level programming experience with relevant tools and libraries (e.g., Python, GDAL).

Desired Skills:

  • Experience developing geospatial products using manually collected data (e.g., photos, GPS, drones).
  • Familiarity with open-source GIS platforms like QGIS, PostGIS, and PySAL.
  • Experience with data science tools and formats such as SciKit, Pandas, GeoPandas, JSON, and GeoJSON.
  • Knowledge of advanced GIS tools and technologies (e.g., Tile Servers, Turf.js, Hive, Cesium.js, GeoNode).

 

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or professional certification in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field.

Security Clearance: 

  • An active Secret clearance is required. Candidates without this clearance will not be considered.
