The IT Data Engineer will support Berkshire's data analytics initiatives working collaboratively across departments to provide solutions for a broad range of data projects including assisting with the implementation of a cloud-based data warehouse.
After the data warehouse is operational, the IT Data Engineer will work to expand the data engineering focus with programming skills for use in Berkshire’s data aggregation initiatives. This will involve building pipelines from internal and external sources, setting up centralized storage structures, and managing the warehouse and related databases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Support the advancement of Berkshire’s data strategy by assisting with the design and construction of a modern technology stack to accommodate the business intelligence and reporting needs of the business. The IT Data Engineer will focus on the following core areas:
- Data Engineering
- Design and construction of cloud data warehouse solution
- Build out of data lake in Azure
- Construct data pipelines
- Design and management of cloud data warehouse
- Assist in constructing end-to-end data solutions including automating data feeds, building ETLs, preparing data sets, and maintaining responsibility for data quality assurance and governance.
- Establish best practices for engineering and data analysis.
- Automation of data pipelines
- Evaluate tools to facilitate data prep and automation.
- Implement scheduled feeds and data connections to improve data logistics (e.g., setup of APIs and in-app scheduling abilities)
- Develop workflows to orchestrate and automate processes.
- Business Intelligence
- Translate business requirements into analytic products.
- Assist with the build-out of foundational level business intelligence capabilities.
- Partner with business users to design and build data visualizations.
- Construct end-to-end solutions in Power BI
- Cleanse and transform data into Power BI data sets.
- Model relational data sets and construct DAX measures
- Design dashboard visualizations
- Aid with advanced Excel solutions for business users including Power Query and VBA
- Assist team members across the organization with the utilization of existing business products in connection with data analytics initiatives.
- IT Team Support
- Maintain systems and data.
- Participate in tasks and projects to support the IT team, as needed.
- Create custom reports in SQL.
- Other
- Support current advanced Excel solutions as needed.
- Assist with additional projects as assigned by Data Analytics Manager, AVP, Information Technology and SVP, Chief IT Officer
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/Experience/Education:
- 3+ years of professional experience in an analytical or data analysis role preferred, with experience maintaining data warehouses.
- Bachelors in computer science or an equivalent major required, Master’s preferred
- An understanding of U.S. real estate metrics and financial modeling is a plus.
- Flexible and willing to learn new technologies.
Technology:
- Requires experience designing and managing analytics solutions based on a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake/MS Synapse Analytics)
- Requires knowledge of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure
- Requires experience with relevant coding languages (SQL, Python, Java, Spark, Scala) for reporting, data ingestion, and automation
- Requires experience with MS Azure Storage
- Requires experience with data warehouse internals and integration with other related technologies for data processing, management, and reporting
- Requires experience with API development
- Requires strong Power BI skills including Power Query, data modeling, DAX, and visual reporting
- Requires advanced Excel functions including PowerQuery, VBA, Power Pivot
- Experience with R/Python for statistical analysis is a plus.
- Experience with Yardi is a plus.
