Senior Scientist, Upstream Process Development

As a member of the CMC group, the Senior Scientist will contribute to Upstream Process Development (UPD) activities to advance Janux Therapeutic lead candidates from research to clinical development. This position will serve as SME to support oversight and collaboration with Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMO) to progress development programs. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the design and hands-on execution of experiments to enhance process understanding of mammalian cell culture to support process improvements.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Technical support and oversight of activities at CDMO partners to ensure cell line and cell culture activities meet project deliverables.
  • Assist in the review of CDMO batch records and reports as well as writing regulatory filings.
  • Identify areas for process improvement; design and perform upstream process development experiments, including process optimization and process characterization.
  • Work collaboratively with downstream and analytical teams to execute plans for in-house development and production activities.
  • Perform material generation using transient transfection or stable cell line to support research and development activities.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the laboratory organization, equipment, and consumables to ensure highly efficient cell culture activities.
  • Maintain detailed records of all experiments performed in accordance with SOPs and policies, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Effectively analyze, organize, and communicate experimental results to colleagues and senior leadership.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.


Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline + 3 – 6 years of postdoctoral experience or a BS/M.S. + 8 – 11 years of industry experience in biologics cell line or upstream process development.
  • Strong background in mammalian upstream process development, including the use of statistical software e.g. JMP is highly desirable.
  • Experience overseeing, coordinating and reviewing documents from CDMOs, such as batch records, release testing results, and process reports.
  • Experience with protein purification is desirable.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to expand skill set and responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Availability on weekends or holidays may occasionally be necessary to meet project demands.


$135,000 - $145,000 a year
Compensation:
 
In addition to a competitive base salary ranging from $135,000 to $145,000, we offer stock options, restricted stock units, a stock purchase plan (ESPP) and a target bonus. Janux also provides a comprehensive benefits package for our employees and their families, which includes medical, dental, vision, and supplemental disability insurance. Relocation assistance may also be available.
 
Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, internal equity, and work location.
