Junior Compliance Counsel

The Compliance Counsel will be responsible for providing legal and compliance support and guidance to the company’s operations and to serve as a regulatory subject matter expert. The primary goal of the Compliance Counsel will be to provide practical guidance to ensure the Company’s operations are conducted in accordance with the complex legal/regulatory requirements applicable to the property and casualty insurance industry.
This is a remote position that can be occupied anywhere in the United States.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provide legal and compliance advice on insurance regulatory matters to the management and staff of the Company; provide written analysis to support such advice.
  • Collaborate with all Company departments to develop, formalize, and maintain written policies and procedures, and ensure adequate controls are in place to prevent, detect, and resolve compliance breaches.
  • Monitor, review, research, and interpret applicable state regulations and regulatory changes; including communication and implementation of required regulatory changes.
  • Serve as liaison between the Company and the State Insurance Departments.
  • Provide legal support in the development and filing of new insurance product forms and rates.
  • Draft responses to consumer complaints.
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries regarding market conduct.
  • Analyze internal business systems to ensure compliance with industry regulations and ethical standards.
  • Oversee the implementation and operation of the Company’s Global Sanctions program.
  • Collaborate with the Company’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Anti-Fraud areas to prevent fraudulent business practices.
  • Design ongoing training programs for employees of the Company.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, and related software.
Required Knowledge:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one jurisdiction
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Insurance terminology
  • Insurance industry experience preferred
  • Personal computer and related software such as Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint
