Junior Software Engineer

Job Description

Purpose: This position is responsible for supporting platforms and building software solutions in Smith’s Learning & Development architecture with a solid understanding of web frameworks, APIs, databases, and specific programming languages.

Essential Job Duties:

Integrate third party tools and architect custom solutions to enhance current proprietary tools related to admin tasks such as automating user information updates, user notifications, etc
Perform analytics to monitor previous errors and proactively predict actions and solutions to move from non-automation to full automation
Extract data from multiple sources to generate reports for stakeholders by utilizing MySQL and MongoDB
Participate in all aspects of infrastructure maintenance and software development including design, implementation, and deployment
Create reliable API endpoints that satisfy requirements
Collaborate with L&D developers and administrators to help with troubleshooting and provide consultation to LMS power users when issues arise

Skills and Abilities:

Must be well versed in web frameworks and technology, including but not limited to:
- Python
- JavaScript
- PHP/Laravel Framework
Have hands on experience in building web components with frontend frameworks (Angular, React, Vuejs)
Querying data from databases (MYSQL, SQL, MongoDB).
Display full-cycle project management and ownership through passion for projects and maintaining work
Ability to utilize MLAI tools to implement solutions is a plus because we’re building a proprietary AI platform
Passion for continued self-development through further education and innovative design in a team environment
Meeting deadlines rather than watching the clock

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, web design, or related fields
3-5 years of related experience

Software requirements:

Code Editor (PHP Storm, VS Code, Sublime, etc.)
Docker experience preferred
Linux
Atlassian tools (JIRA, BitBucket, Confluence)
Version Control (GIT)
Learning Management System (LMS) software experience or familiarity
