So, what’s the role?

Our Production Support Team keeps Kin moving by solving problems coming in from the field. 

 As a Senior Staff Site Reliability Engineer with a specialization in PostgreSQL databases at Kin, your core responsibilities will include the maintenance and optimization of our database systems. You will be tasked with enhancing performance, ensuring system reliability, and providing support to both teams and individuals in skill development. 

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff SRE Engineer with a special focus on database technologies, especially Postgres, to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing our database systems' reliability, performance, and efficiency, ensuring scalability and cost-effectiveness across various teams.

In your role, you will have the opportunity to work on more complex engineering problems while collaborating with peers in Dev, Product, QA, and other cross-functional teams. You will spend time mentoring and pairing with other engineers as well as collaborating with other members of team leadership to keep us proactive and always improving. 

A day in the life could include: 

  • Design, implement, and manage our PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability.
  • Develop and maintain robust monitoring and alerting systems for database health, performance metrics, and cost management.
  • Lead database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs, providing expertise and support in database design and optimization.
  • Implement cost-effective solutions without compromising on performance, assisting in capacity planning and resource optimization.
  • Mentor team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth in both Ruby and Postgres
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in database management, bringing innovative solutions to the table.

I’ve got the skills… but do I have the necessary ones?

  • Has served as technical lead for a team
  • Track record of maintaining mission critical PostgreSQL databases 
  • 5+ years working Ruby on Rails 
  • Experience with architectural planning and design
  • Ability to articulate value of technical investments
  • Ability to operate with little-to-no technical guidance
  • Experience mentoring engineers
  • Experience in AWS and scaling database solutions  
  • Comfortable in a startup environment – we’re fast-paced, self-motivated, and determined to change the industry
  • A fast learner, ready to bring previous knowledge to this position and continue developing along the way
  • Location in Central or Eastern US time zones (CDT & EDT) strongly preferred
  • At this time, we are unable to sponsor employment visas
