Staff Accountant

Portland Housing Authority is seeking a Staff Accountant, to be based in the Portland, Maine office.
Requirements of the Staff Accountant: - Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Significant experience with computer-based accounting systems, including integration of modules with the G/L.
- Ability to produce and reconcile all related computer-generated reports.
- Strong knowledge in Excel and use of spreadsheet software including the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets.
- Significant understanding of internal controls and the ability to implement and modify control processes as needed.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a detailed, organized and timely fashion.
- Ability to establish good working relationships with stakeholders.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to work independently.
Benefits of the Job: - Annual salary in the range of $65,000 to $88,000

Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant: - Section 8 Duties: To include maintenance of Landlord files and ownership changes, preparation and reconciliation of all Housing Assistance Payments, reconciliation of portable billings, and processing of 1099’s at year end.
- Accounting Duties: To include reviewing and posting journal entries, daily transaction batches, processing cash receipts, preparing monthly bank reconciliations and identifying any errors within balance sheet accounts. Assist with reporting of grants, budget preparation, and audit preparations.
- Back up for Accounts Payable and Payroll when needed.
