The Finance team at Kraken is a group of specialists charged with managing the firm’s liquidity, capital and risk, and providing the overall financial controls and reporting functions for executive decision making, compliance, and audit readiness. Our work contributes directly to Kraken’s success.
The Platform Accounting team is an integral part of the Finance organization responsible for financial accounting and reporting on a variety of trading products and transactions including fiat, digital assets, futures, margin, options and other new company initiatives. In addition, the Platform Accounting team oversees Over-the-Counter (“OTC”) operations, serving Kraken’s high-networth individuals and financial institutional clients. The Platform Accounting team is a dynamic organization at the forefront of building best in class accounting processes and infrastructure to support Kraken’s mission in the crypto industry.The team is highly motivated and passionate about excellence in financial reporting and continuously strives for improvement. We are seeking a Director of Accounting on Revenue Projects who will work closely with your Finance and Accounting leadership business partners to plan, implement, improve, automate, test, and ensure the Platform Accounting team provides complete and accurate financial records and reports for management, improves the quality of our financial statements, and boosts our audit readiness. The Director of Accounting, Revenue Projects is responsible for overseeing new products and acquisition integrations with existing systems, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g, ASC 606), and managing the revenue Project and M&A team. This role involves working closely with cross functional teams, including, Business Development, Legal, Tax, Finance Transformation, and Product Engineering, to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition and reporting. This person will play a critical role in implementing and optimizing revenue recognition processes and systems to support the company’s growth and financial objectives.
Oversee and manage the new products and acquisitions integration to current financial systems
Assess proper revenue and accounting treatments, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and other applicable accounting standards
Work with Technical Accounting Group and support revenue-related transactions, contracts, and new business initiatives
Collaborate with Business Development, Legal, Tax and Operations teams to review contracts and agreements, ensuring that revenue and customer activities are recognized appropriately and in accordance with company policy
Collaborate with Tax, Regulatory, Legal and Finance Transformation teams on entity migration for assets and customers
Liaise with internal and external auditors to support the audit process, providing necessary documentation and explanations for revenue related inquiries
Identify opportunities for process improvement in revenue recognition and reporting, including the use of technology and automation
Lead initiatives to streamline and optimize revenue accounting processes to support the company’s growth and scalability
Lead and support special projects, such as system implementation, acquisitions, and/or new product launches, that impact revenue recognition
Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required
Minimum of 10 years of experience in revenue accounting or related fields, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
Experience in establishing internal control and solid experience with SOX
Experience with ERP systems, such as Netsuite or SAP and system integration experience a plus
Ability to handle and lead multiple projects and deliverables in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Microsoft Excel proficiency including pivot tables, H- & V-Lookup / data analysis over large data sets.
Working experience from the Big 4 or national accounting firms and/or industry, preferred in Financial Services, Fintech, broker-dealer, banking or exchange
Knowledge of ASC 606 and other relevant accounting standards
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
Collaborative, innovative, flexible, and adept at building relations across the organization
CPA certification required; additional certifications (e.g., CMA CFA) are a plus.
Experience with high volume transactions
Experience using an ERP system such as Netsuite, SAP
Experience or knowledge with cryptocurrency
