Laboratory Assistant

** This will be set as a contract to hire opportunity (6 months+ on contract then convert)

Hours would be ideally Friday-Tuesday 12-9 but also flexible looking for part time 12-5pm

Description of Position

The Laboratory Assistant must be able to complete lab-related tasks both independently and as a member of the laboratory team. This individual should be highly organized, pay strict attention to detail and possess the ability to be self-motivated in terms of time-management and multi-tasking skills. This individual should have consistency in completing assigned objectives to meet deadlines given by the laboratory management team pertaining to his/her responsibilities and duties.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of medical terminology useful but not required
  • Previous laboratory experience useful but not required
  • Ability to pay strict attention to detail/focus on quality
  • Strong organizational, observational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate objectives individually or with a team
  • Ability to interact with co-workers, lab management team, and internal/external customers with courtesy and respect
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Receiving, sorting and accessioning patient samples in the department
  • Data entry of patient demographics and payment information into Laboratory Information System
  • Loading patient samples onto instruments
  • Performing routine maintenance and minor troubleshooting on instrumentation
  • Monitoring and recording temperature of ancillary lab equipment such as refrigerators and freezers
  • Performing routine inspection of ancillary safety equipment such as eyewash stations and fire extinguishers
  • Preparing daily QC checks on instrumentation
  • Monitoring volumes and preparing inventory orders of laboratory reagents and supplies
  • Performing and documenting incoming inspection of received laboratory reagents and supplies
  • Performing standard sterility/cleaning practices
  • Assisting in finding missing specimens/missing information
  • Adhering to standard Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and laboratory safety procedures
  • Adhering to Federal, State, and International laboratory guidelines
  • Assisting in preparing for Federal, State, and International laboratory inspections
  • Follows all PPE requirements
  • Properly disposes of biohazard materials if applicable

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $23.00 per hour
