Sr. Acoustic Systems Production Development Engineer/Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Sr. Acoustic Systems Production Development Engineer/Manager with expertise in modeling electroacoustic transducers and arrays. The candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and production of advanced acoustic systems, from concept through manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in acoustics, electroacoustic transducer design, signal processing, and experience in leading cross-functional teams. This role will involve overseeing the technical aspects of acoustic product development while also managing the production process to ensure that designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements. This is a 3 month contract to hire.

Responsibilities:
  • Acoustic System Design & Development:
  • Lead the design and development of electroacoustic transducers, arrays, and systems for various applications such as audio, sonar, and industrial uses.
  • Model and simulate the performance of acoustic transducers and arrays using industry-standard software (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB, or equivalent).
  • Perform acoustic analysis, including frequency response, directivity patterns, and impedance matching, to optimize transducer performance.
  • System Integration & Prototyping:
  • Oversee the integration of acoustic systems with electronics, enclosures, and other components to ensure optimal performance and durability.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop prototypes, test system performance, and refine designs based on testing results.
  • Lead or participate in the fabrication of prototypes, verifying the accuracy of simulations and performance predictions.
  • Production Engineering & Manufacturing Oversight:
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure that acoustic designs are manufacturable, scalable, and meet quality standards.
  • Implement design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles to optimize the production of transducers and arrays, including material selection and assembly methods.
  • Provide technical leadership during the transition from prototype to full-scale production, ensuring that all technical issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Develop and manage production documentation, including specifications, testing protocols, and assembly instructions.
  • Performance Testing & Validation:
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate the performance of acoustic systems against design specifications and customer requirements.
  • Lead acoustic performance testing in lab and field environments, using equipment such as anechoic chambers, impedance tubes, and calibrated microphones.
  • Analyze test data and feedback from production to continuously improve product design and reliability.
  • Team Leadership & Project Management:
  • Manage a team of engineers, technicians, and project personnel involved in acoustic system development.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, ensuring the successful completion of projects within timelines and budget.
  • Coordinate project activities, including resource planning, budgeting, and reporting to senior management.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless product development and production processes.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact with clients, vendors, and partners on matters related to acoustic product performance and design.
  • Present technical findings, project updates, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
