Lead Industry Strategist

11:FS is on a mission to change the fabric of financial services. Our Ventures practice builds challenger propositions globally, like we did for Natwest with Mettle. Our Pulse team creates a benchmarking tool used by the likes of Monzo, Starling, Natwest and Tesco Bank. Our Foundry team are delivering a Financial Services Operating System to help businesses quickly add financial services to their offering. On top of all of that, we're a media company, our Growth team generate a stream of content that supports our brand and changes the conversation - not necessarily in that order.

Purpose of Role:

In this role you'll be working in the heart of the dynamic and constantly evolving Fintech space. You'll play a central role in defining, developing and launching services all around the world that change the way that finance works. Our ambition is to create new businesses which have the customer at their centre. The quantitative analysis and commercial thinking you lead will validate opportunities for us to design and build new financial services that serve currently unmet customer needs.


Lead Competitor Strategist

What you'll be doing:

We are looking for a Lead Commercial Strategist to work on specific client engagements, reporting to our Strategy Director of Business Design & Growth

You will:

  • Work in a small highly skilled team of researchers, strategists, product managers and clients, to apply a commercial angle to new world-class digital financial propositions, getting them to market.
  • Work alongside the Strategy Director to help clients explore strategic options for growth, cost reduction or enhancing customer experience through the transition to digital. Evaluating where to play, how to win, you will be able to clearly articulate impact vs effort, and cost vs benefit
  • Create growth strategies, employing digital business models to help clients diversify from primary revenue streams, including creation and/or validation/challenge of existing business cases, forecasting revenue and cost
  • Analyse existing commercial profiles of our clients, ability to understand strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for optimisation in the existing profile
  • Unpicking strategic direction of different players in the market, ability to analyse financial reports and investor relations materials to develop an educated opinion
  • Identify and quantify revenue opportunities for new business models in financial services.
  • Build and test quantitative models of how digital financial services markets will evolve.
  • Work with senior executives from our client organisations to quantify market opportunities and validate business cases.

As a Lead Industry Strategist, you will need:

  • Curiosity, strong opinions and growing expertise about fintech and the future of financial services.
  • A love of numbers.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • At least three years of demonstrable experience in quantitative analysis and/or business case modelling, such as market forecasting, equity analysis or venture capital.
  • Experience working in corporate/group strategy, or strategy consulting firm is preferred.
  • To be solutions orientated with a problem-solving energy.
  • Excellent client management skills with the ability to build strong trusted relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness that enables you to understand clients' complex business problems, construct research-led project approaches, frame winning proposals and support 11:FS's business development efforts.
  • Confident leadership with the ability to run projects, workshops and training (both internally and externally).
  • Comfort and enthusiasm for collaborating with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams in an agile environment.
  • Good coaching and mentoring skills that enable you to lead and support more junior members of a team.
  • A positive attitude and outlook even when facing the most difficult challenges.
  • A willingness and ability to travel and work on location in other countries for up to 25% of the time (when it is safe to do so).
