Leidos Health & Civil Sector is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Database Administrator to join our team. This position directly supports programs which provide a broad array of information, resources, referrals, mental health coaching and specialized support for military members and their families worldwide. The Database Administrator designs, develops, maintains, and provides the Government with operational databases, database architecture, administration, and engineering guides/SOPs, data flow documentation, data models, manuals, and (Microsoft Visio based) diagrams. Ensures that all data collection and storage systems are DISA STIG and SRG compliant, with documented access controls, comprehensive intrusion detection and prevention, and malware protection. Provides backup, recovery (i.e., RTO) and recommends enhancements for performance and security. Monitors transaction activity and utilization. Responsible for database loading; development and management of operational procedures; environment management; database health (e.g. monitoring, proactive and reactive responses); resource planning; database upgrade planning; backup and recovery strategy planning and implementation; environment transition planning (development, test, stage, production). This position is a remote position and requires a quiet, private, confidential space to work from as well as having access to your own reliable high-speed internet hard wired to your home or apartment (coax or fiber from the Internet Service Provider (ISP) to your home. Using a hot spot from a mobile device (tethering) or wireless ISP is not acceptable.
Primary Responsibilities:
• The Sr. DBA will be responsible for designing, testing, planning, implementing, protecting, operating, managing, and maintaining system databases.
• Create, tune, implement and upgrade DBMS installations.
• Implement and support ETL processes for migrating data from system to system, including from mainframe systems.
• Monitor database operations and system performance metrics to identify potential risks/issues.
• Respond to performance and outage alerts and ensures database backup and recovery jobs are in place.
• Manage database user access and security.
• Monitor database access controls ensuring they adequately support protecting the data.
• Optimize application SQL queries and database for faster performance and high availability.
• Write and deploy SQL DML and DDL script to support application patches and deployments.
• Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements.
• Collate, prepare, and present statistical information for internal and external use.
• Support application and database deployment for application modules.
• Provide database guidance and support to project teams.
• Assist with schema design, code review, SQL query tuning.
• Work in conjunction with the data architect and application development teams to design, develop and review data model changes.
• Review and maintain all database changes using appropriate tools.
• Assist with SQL development to generate ad-hoc reports from database as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related information technology field with 7+ years of experience in administering, managing and tuning databases and, 7+ years of experience with Oracle, MS SQL or other relational databases in a cloud environment.
• Hands-on experience with ETL tools and ETL process implementation. Experience using APIs to develop and maintain dashboards consumed by senior management within the customer organization and project.
• Experience managing RDS in AWS a plus.
• Experience implementing and using Liquibase or other DevOps tools to manage database changes.
• Solid understanding of data and schema standards and concepts, database design, implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Proven ability to clearly communicate requirements to other development team members.
• Manage changes to requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
• Communicate effectively (verbally and written) and clearly within the team and with all stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with team members, customers, vendors and support personnel.
• Proven ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to obtain and/or maintain an Active Secret Security Clearance. US Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Aurora MySql, Postgres and DocumentDB strongly preferred.
• AWS Cloud Data Engineer.
