Important Details

All candidates hired from this recruitment will be hired at $17.20 per hour.

YOU MUST BE AT LEAST AGE 14 TO APPLY FOR THIS LIBRARY PAGE POSITION.

Applicants are required to complete a 20-minute skills assessment exercise to measure sorting, filing, alphabetizing, and use of the Dewey decimal system.

This recruitment will generate an eligible list for six (6) months to fill current and future Library Page vacancies in all Montgomery County Public Libraries.

Note: You are eligible to apply and take the assessment exercise one time using this requisition IRC. If you are not successful on the assessment, you will need to wait until the next requisition is posted to reapply and take the assessment exercise.

What you will be doing

Duties include:

  • Replace and rearrange books and related materials on shelves in alphabetic, numeric, or other predetermined order
  • Shift collections or sections of a collection, when necessary
  • Load and unload books from a large cart or bin
  • Pack books and periodicals for shipment
  • Apply protective coverings to library materials
  • Refer customers to other staff for appropriate assistance
  • Perform related duties as required

Successful candidates must have sufficient physical strength to push carts weighing 60-70 pounds and to load and unload books. Must also have ability to bend and stretch as needed to place books and materials on upper and lower shelves.

Montgomery County Ethics Law : Except as provided by law or regulation, the County's "Public Employees" (which does not include employees of the Sheriff's office) are subject to the County's ethics law including the requirements to obtain advanced approval of any outside employment and the prohibitions on certain outside employment. The outside employment requirements of the ethics law can be found at 19A-12 of the County Code . Additional information about outside employment can be obtained from the Ethics Commission website.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience : None.

Education : Ability to read and write.

Equivalency : None.

Physical Abilities : Must have sufficient physical strength to push carts weighing 60-70 lbs. and to load and unload books.

Preferred Criteria

Applicants will be rated "qualified" or "did not pass assessment" based on the results of the Library Page assessment exercise. Qualified applicants will be placed on the eligible list for a period of six (6) months unless they are interviewed and hired prior to that time.
