  • Bachelor’s degree or four years work experience working in a field related to archives, libraries, museums, or other cultural heritage sites.
  • Research and analytical skills.
  • Database management, including FilemakerPro and/or Access, as well as library/archival management systems such as ArchivesSpace, Archon, or Caiasoft.
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, colleagues, and students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an archive, library, museum, or other cultural heritage site.
  • Experience with archival description standards such as MPLP, EAD, or DACs.

Job Description
The Archives Specialist supports The Wittliff’s digitization and collection management initiatives. This position establishes baseline administrative, physical, and intellectual control over archival accessions; contributes to retroactive inventorying of legacy accessions in preparation for digitization; and works on the identification and documentation of rights holders within collections selected for digitization and online access.

Job Duties
  • Develop and refine training guides and manuals for student employees.
  • Hire, train, assign tasks to, monitor work results of, and review training needs for student employees assisting with rights assessment and inventorying archival collections.
  • Assist with project to digitize existing Wittliff deeds of gift, MOUs, appraisals, and other collection documentation.
  • Identify and document rights holders within collection materials selected for digitization and online access.
  • Contribute to the establishment and implementation of workflows for incorporating rights assessment into accessioning activities and documentation.
  • Manage the retroactive inventorying of legacy accessions selected for digitization and online access, providing descriptive metadata as appropriate.
  • Establish baseline administrative, physical, and intellectual control over incoming archival material by rehousing, conducting privacy reviews, identifying preservation concerns, and completing preliminary inventories.
  • Enter preliminary inventories into ArchivesSpace for online discovery.
  • Contribute to The Wittliff’s reference service by providing assistant to students and other researchers using the collections.

Additional Information to Applicants
This is a Systems Project Staff (SPS) position, which is non-permanent, benefits eligible position for two years and is subject to renewal.
