Senior Database Administrator - ATIS Learning

Overview

LMI seeks a highly motivated Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to support ATIS Learning by ensuring the security, availability, and performance of the Learning Management System (LMS) database infrastructure. This role requires expertise in database management, optimization, and cloud-based solutions to support the Army’s training capabilities. The DBA will work closely with system administrators, developers, and cybersecurity teams to maintain database integrity, enhance performance, and comply with Army IT policies.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Manage, optimize, and maintain the Moodle-based LMS database systems to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Perform database administration tasks including installation, configuration, patching, and upgrades.
• Ensure data security, backup, and disaster recovery strategies are in place and regularly tested.
• Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance tuning.
• Collaborate with system administrators, application developers, and cybersecurity teams to integrate database solutions with the LMS.
• Ensure compliance with Army cybersecurity policies and Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements.
• Develop and maintain database documentation, including schemas, procedures, and best practices.
• Automate routine database tasks using SQL scripting, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Support data migration and transformation efforts for LMS modernization initiatives.
• Assist in integrating third-party learning tools and plugins with the Moodle database.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Management, or related field or experience in lieu of degree.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in database administration, optimization, and management.
• Expertise in MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other relational database systems.
• Strong understanding of database security principles and DoD cybersecurity requirements.
• Experience working with cloud-based database environments (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or similar).
• Proficiency in SQL scripting, performance tuning, and query optimization.
• Must possess a DoD security clearance.
• Travel required to in person PI Planning event once per quarter.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in IT, Database Administration, or related field.
• Prior experience supporting ATIS or Army training systems.
• Certifications such as AWS Certified Database Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or MySQL Database Administrator.
• Experience with database replication, clustering, and high availability solutions.
• Knowledge of Moodle database architecture and optimization best practices.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
