Mission for this role: you’ll be building and scaling the Company’s focus on compliance with data protection laws and regulations, as well as developing and implementing privacy policies and procedures. 

Outcomes over the next 12 months that help fulfill the Mission:

  • Compliance Management: work with our marketing and website teams to ensure our website and cookie collection is up to date with privacy laws and regulations. Generally work closely with stakeholders across the organization to ensure policies align with business goals while prioritizing user privacy.

  • AI adoption: develop a cross-functional policy around the use of AI 

  • Policy Development: review and update our current privacy policies, terms and conditions and other regularly used templates and policies to reflect best practices and current regulatory landscape. 

  • Customer Contract Review: developing a repeatable playbook for review of infosec questionnaires, DPA and customer contracts, often including negotiating specific internal control and privacy requirements. 

  • Product Support: understand the product functionality and provide input on privacy and compliance measures as necessary. 

  • Supplier and Vendor Review: work cross functionally with organization to understand and advise on the privacy and compliance requirements as needed.

  • Operations Support: Support our General Counsel with broader legal work (up to 25% of time)

Competencies that help achieve the Outcomes:

  • Privacy Law Knowledge: deep understanding of privacy laws and regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant laws for US startup with global reach and subsidiaries.

  • Risk Assessment: ability to assess privacy risks associated with the startup's products, services, and data processing activities.

  • Compliance Management: Proficiency in developing and implementing privacy compliance programs, including drafting privacy policies, terms of service, and data processing agreements.

  • Contract Negotiation: Experience in negotiating privacy-related terms in contracts with third parties, vendors, and partners in the b2b saas space.

  • Data Breach Response: Capability to develop and implement data breach response plans, including coordinating with relevant stakeholders and regulatory authorities.

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Skill in collaborating with teams across the organization, including engineering, product management, and marketing, to embed privacy-by-design principles into the development process.

  • Understanding of Emerging Technologies: Awareness of emerging technologies and their potential privacy implications, such as AI, IoT, and blockchain.

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt quickly to evolving privacy laws and regulations, as well as changes in the startup's business model or market landscape.

  • Project Management: Capability to manage multiple privacy-related projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and resources effectively.

The salary range provided for this position is an estimated guideline from a salary database. Total compensation for this position may also include equity, variable pay, and employee benefits. We consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to relevant experience, knowledge, training, and skill sets; market conditions; and internal equity. Compensation ranges may also vary based on location.
