Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) is one position that will be nuanced based on the area of subject matter including subject-area curriculum authoring, quality assurance (spelling/grammar review), design and media, or technology. Liberty University Online Academy (LUOA) produces online curriculum and content that reflects world-class, Christ-centered education to K–12 students in various formats and contexts, from accredited private schooling to educational resources. The curriculum is built in-house and managed through Canvas, the Learning Management System (LMS). SMEs will work on designated curriculum project(s) which focus on the development and maintenance of the online curriculum. Project types, responsibilities, and required qualifications vary depending on the needs of the individual project(s). SMEs will interface with the LMS, content authoring platform, and several other instructional technologies and tools. Therefore, SMEs must be comfortable with the use of technology. SMEs report directly to the subject-area manager and interface with other members of the Curriculum Department for training, project assignment, and other necessary job functions.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
10%: Reviewing curriculum for proper spelling and grammar.
10%: Improving the overall presentation and function of the curriculum.
50%: Authoring content in course development or redevelopment projects.
5%: Implementing technical adjustments to the curriculum.
20%: Migrating curriculum to a new online platform.
5%: Other duties as assigned by various LUOA teams.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
- Professional written communication
- Ability to write or revise K-12 curriculum
- Excellent computer and technology skills
- Reliable and diligent work ethic
- Ability to be punctual in correspondences and emails
- Ability to work under the direction of others
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to develop and author instructional curriculum for course development projects
- Experience working with an LMS and instructional technology such as Canvas or Articulate360
- Able to make judgment calls and suggest improvements toward achieving quality and excellence in the curriculum
- Degree in education or a relevant subject area
