Job Overview


Reporting to the VP, Finance, this position will drive the financial planning and analysis process of Mainspring, primarily responsible for developing budgets, forecasting future performance, analyzing financial data, and providing strategic insights to senior management to support decision-making by identifying key trends, risks, and opportunities for growth. 


Responsibilities
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including collaborating with different departments to gather input and develop comprehensive budget plans. 
  • Develop and drive the planning schedule, collaborating with senior management, finance team members, and key stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain detailed financial models to forecast revenue, expenses, and profitability across various business units. 
  • Develop long-range financial plans aligned with the company's strategic objectives. 
  • Analyze financial performance data to identify key trends, variances, and drivers impacting profitability. 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior management, highlighting key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Conduct variance analysis to explain deviations from budget and forecast, identifying potential issues and areas for improvement. 
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership on potential business initiatives, investments, and mergers and acquisitions. 
  • Establish business relationships across the organization and serve as a strategic thought partner with cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and present data-driven presentations to communicate complex financial information effectively. 
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial planning and reporting processes, including automation and system enhancements. 
  • Take ownership of the company’s existing financial planning system environment and provide recommendations for system improvements. Drive implementation of approved recommendations through to completion.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine financial models and reporting tools to improve accuracy and timeliness.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or related area; MBA, CFA, or CPA a plus
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in a corporate finance or FP&A role, preferably in a company manufacturing a complex product or in the energy industry
  • Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning 
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders 
  • Deep understanding of financial accounting principles and business operations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software applications 
  • Highly motivated team player driven to achieve exceptional results


$130,000 - $160,000 a year
This position is hybrid at our Menlo Park HQ. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee. Along with the base salary, Mainspring offers pre-IPO stock options + benefits.

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
