SUMMARY: Responsible for managing cargo related operations for a particular business line or major project.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct and interpret company policies and procedures. Has direct and frequent contact with the customer to determine the customer’s operational needs. Prepare cost estimates and proposed operations plans for review by business line manager before presenting to customer. Frequent contact with Marine Operations and Engineering personnel. Prepare stowage and ballast plans. Arrange necessary support equipment for loading or discharging operations. Ensure all applicable regulations for personnel safety, barge stability and handling of hazardous cargoes are followed. Maintain contact with customer during the course of the job to determine if all requirements being met. Provide documentation of job progress and activities to business unit manager for invoicing customer. Participate in post job meetings with customers to determine areas needing improvement.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree from a maritime academy preferred. At least 15 years of related experience may substitute for a degree.
EXPERIENCE: 10 or more years experience in marine cargo operations or engineering.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
COMPETENCIES: Ability to apply skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope.
OTHER: Ability to travel. Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) credential is required. Also, subject to a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check to obtain your driving history.
JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works outside in conditions of both hot and cold temperatures and may be exposed to odors, dust, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment and materials. Ability to bend, reach, lift and carry up to 50-75 lbs frequently.
