The Regulatory Exam Lifecycle Management team (“RELM”) in Global Risk and Compliance is the center of expertise for U.S. regulatory exams and remediation for the American Express enterprise. Part of RELM is the Response & Remediation team, which plays a critical role in driving required transformation across all parts of the business.

RELM supports the end-to-end lifecycle of U.S. regulatory exams, ongoing supervision, and remediation of regulatory findings – responsibilities that are central to the safety and soundness of American Express. We partner closely with all parts of the business – from senior decision makers to their teams –to support their interactions with regulators that oversee AENB and American Express broadly, with a focus on responses to regulatory requests and walkthroughs. We continue that partnership when regulatory reviews result in findings (e.g., MRAs) or recommendations, supporting business units as they implement change. Our team partners closely with the U.S. Regulatory Relations team within the General Counsel’s Organization to focus on regulatory reporting and engagement of our internal stakeholders and regulators from the OCC, FRB, FDIC, CFPB, and state entities.

The Manager within the Response & Remediation team plays a critical role in driving operations, supporting responses to regulatory supervisory letters and designing and managing project plans in partnership with leaders from across the enterprise. This Manager position is located in New York with hybrid in-office requirements (2 days a week or more as needed).

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the process of responding to regulatory supervisory letters, including drafting written responses and preparing project plans demonstrating how regulatory findings will be remediated.
  • Managing remediation of regulatory findings.
  • Developing and managing the execution of standard remediation processes, including formal remediation project tracking and reporting.
  • Ensuring adequate and timely completion of all remediation project plan items or escalating to senior leaders where timely completion may be at risk.
  • Supporting the preparation of documentation demonstrating successful completion of corrective actions for submission to the Internal Audit Group.
  • Ensuring that relevant information related to remediation of all findings is communicated to key stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Contributing to the development, establishment, monitoring of, review of, and improvement of all strategies, processes, and procedures related to response and remediation.
  • Translating the stated objectives, goals, and strategic direction of American Express leadership into key priorities for the Response & Remediation team.
  • Ensuring adherence to all written policies as relevant and adequate documentation throughout remediation process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong project management experience, especially including cross-organizational coordination on large and complex projects.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and influence business leaders and partners without direct authority.
  • Ability to understand and communicate linkages across initiatives and disciplines.
  • Highly collaborative, with ability to build and leverage relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple and often conflicting priorities under tight timeframes.
  • High attention to detail, sense of follow-through, and accountability.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a related field a plus.
  • Experience interacting with federal and/or state regulators or experience remediating internal findings a plus.
