The Manager, Paramount Soundstage, is responsible for the entire oversight and management of the film soundstage facilities in support of the academic program and co-curricular organizations.

The facility is dedicated to helping to fulfill the Visual and Media Arts, cinematography, and production curriculum, through classes and student productions. The Soundstage team provides students and faculty, equipment, training, and assistance to develop the skills needed to create cinematic stories in a soundstage environment.

Your Department

The Media Technologies and Production department (MTP) provide superior curricular and co-curricular support to students and faculty in media-intensive programs through high-functioning facilities, equipment, and staffing services that support the work they do, creating avenues for innovation and creativity. Your department sits within the Production Facilities, where students learn career skills of the communications industry.

You Report To: Director, Production Facilities

Your Direct Reports: Assistant Manager, Paramount Soundstage

Student Workers: Eighteen (18)

Your Partners: Media Technologies and Production departments, Equipment Distribution Center, IT Lab Support, Visual and Media Arts department.

Hours: The facility is open from 7:30 am - 11 pm. The Manager tends to work morning shifts.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • The manager is the primary resource provider and interface for all users of the facilities.
  • Coordinate schedules of facilities; including class and student project use.
  • Hire, train, supervise, professionally develop and manage performance of workers, Supervise Assistant Manager, Soundstage, part-time employees, and student staff; including:
    • Direct work assignments
    • Management of performance includes discipline, formal performance evaluations, and informal conversations to professionally develop workers that directly affect the employee's pay raises and/or job security.
    • Hire and supervise approximately 18 part-time student employees each semester.
  • Train student and faculty users to safely operate all soundstage equipment; ensuring training is consistent with established industry and College curricular standards;
  • Conduct technical/operational workshops on various film production processes when called upon to do so; and associated services in order that various academic and co-curricular productions can be produced using the facilities' professional equipment;
  • Ensure successful planning and installation of new equipment.
    • Coordinate equipment repairs and installations as well as software updates.
    • Research and support in planning for facility upgrades.
    • Research and planning for equipment needs purchases.
  • Providing technical and advisory support to VMA production classes and student projects;
  • Serve as resource expert recommending production options to faculty and students;
  • Provide oversight and ensure Directing Studio equipment is operational.
  • Coordinate Equipment Distribution Center (EDC) equipment to be transported to and from the soundstage.
  • Oversee and vend equipment used in productions; Oversee and coordinate load out an in of facility. Troubleshooting issues in all soundstage facilities;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Other Responsibilities:
  • Support Director, Production Facilities and VMA faculty with long term planning for facilities needs.
  • Provide support in other Production Facilities areas, including the Tufte Television Facility and Journalism Production Center as needed. Remained trained in key systems/equipment in the specific areas.
  • Stay current with technology trends of media production equipment by attending local vendor presentations and demonstrations, industry conference wrap-ups, on-site vendor demonstrations and reading industry literature.
  • Support department with special productions and projects that use the Center's Facility or other college events.

Your Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Four to six years experience in all aspects of the film production process. Two years of previous management experience in the area of film production. Knowledge and experience in film and tv production terminology.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, written and oral communication skills, and work habits.
  • Understanding of basic stage rigging procedures as well as electrical distribution and safety procedures. Including props and staging practices.
  • A solid understanding of film and digital cameras, LED, Tungsten, and HMI lighting units, grip, and audio equipment.
  • Strong understanding of video/computer equipment
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Basic Maintenance/repair skills
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a high demand and fast-paced academic environment. Must possess the ability to relate well to faculty and student needs.

You'll be preferred if
  • Bachelor's Degree in film production preferred. Master's Degree desirable but not necessary.
  • Three to five years proven experience in all aspects of the film production process.
  • Two years previous managerial experience in a directly-related field.
  • Hands-on technical experience in one or more areas of film/media production.
  • Understanding of Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro CC, or DaVinci Resolve
  • Digital Cameras: Canon C300, Canon C70, Sony FS5, Sony F5
  • Film Cameras: Arri SR1, Atonn LTR
  • An eagerness to grow and learn about film production
  • Skilled at troubleshooting and performing base-level maintenance and repairs
  • Hands-on technical experience in one or more areas of film production
  • Experience working with clients in a professional environment.

Work Environment:
  • This is an on-site position, requiring your presence during regular business hours.
  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and move objects that are 50 lb. or less.

The hiring range for this position is $54,274 to $66,486 , commensurate with years of relevant experience.

Grade of Position: 23-07E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25
