Working independently but under the general supervision of the Director, Campus Safety, the Manager, Physical Security is responsible for ensuring compliance with the University’s security, access management and key control policies and procedures. As the expert on security for UTM, the incumbent participates in designing and implementing security and access control systems, develops policies and procedures for the security and safety systems at UTM, and fosters positive relationships with community members. In addition, the incumbent manages the support and security systems for the Safety Services operation, manages contracts and relationships with external service providers and assists departments at UTM with the creation of new security alarm and access control systems. He/she will conduct security audits and investigation, and recommend and implement solutions to address safety and security risks in order to ensure the security of UTM’s assets and personal safety of UTM community members. This incumbent will also investigate breaches of security that may lead to discipline or discharge.
As the expert for fire safety on campus, the incumbent advises and provides internal consultation on fire safety practices, policies, codes, standards, and fire protection system designs for new buildings and renovations. He /she supplements fire alarm and emergency response by attending fire and emergency calls as required.
The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining the fire and security section of the website, and assisting with maintaining the budget. Administrative responsibilities include training and supervising staff, budget management, and oversight of a business unit.
I. EDUCATION:
University degree in related discipline, plus related specialized training (eg. Canadian Fire Alarm Association courses, course in Security Systems) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Security Professional (PSP) Certification or equivalent an asset.
