UUSA is organized under the laws of New York State as a not-for-profit corporation. As such, UUSA is a tax-exempt organization as defined under Section 501C(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is governed by an independent, non-salaried Board of Directors.
Position: Managing Director, Philanthropy
Location: Based in New York City Headquarters, but flexible
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: The estimated salary range for this position is $125,500 - $143,900. This midpoint for the salary grade is $163,200. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience.
Position Description:
Reporting to the Senior Managing Director (SMD), the Managing Director, Philanthropy, will provide leadership to the New York Major Giving team to drive fundraising success; identify, cultivate, and solicit new and existing high net worth individuals for the major donor program; and serve as a philanthropy contact for the regional board and committees.
Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
· Lead on major gift and event strategy alignment in the New York market; advise and collaborate with the Special Events team on the planning and execution of major donor fundraising events and activities
· Serve as a philanthropy contact and thought partner for the regional board of directors’ major gift efforts in New York, in collaboration with the Director and the Philanthropy Advancement team
· Lead the national Major Giving team in a specific initiative, such as Inclusive Philanthropy, Professional Development, Work/Life Balance, Operations, Leadership, etc.
· Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to support establishment of a public presence through local media visibility and events
· Work collaboratively with the internal business units of UNICEF USA designed to assist the major giving program, e.g., special events, program services, communications, etc.
Major Giving Strategy and Results:
· Responsible for meeting individual and team KPIs, which include the annual fundraising goal, multi-year commitments, meaningful interactions, integrated asks, asks at level, and face-to-face meetings
· Manage a portfolio of 50 high net worth donors and prospects in the New York area to generate significant financial support for UNICEF USA
· Complete 44+ face-to-face donor meetings annually
· Develop and execute detailed strategies for top donors and prospects in the region; secure six- and seven- figure gifts, multi-year gifts, and blended gifts
· Shape and edit donor correspondences such as letters, emails, funding proposals, and reports
· Maintain accurate records of donor outreach and solicitation plans through regular upkeep of donor database
· Special projects and other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10-12 years’ relevant work experience, with at least 6-8 years of frontline major gifts fundraising experience and proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts
· Must be a self-motivated professional with a proven success record in fundraising
· Must have significant experience managing frontline fundraisers
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal
· Excellent relationship-building skills with organizational leadership and donors
· Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and have strong experience using a fundraising database
· Keen attention to detail, flexibility in high-pressure situations and the willingness to assist with all tasks needed to ensure the success of a small regional team
· Ability to effectively lead internal and external meetings
· Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be an enthusiastic team player
· Must share a strong commitment to international humanitarian relief and development and passionately embrace the mission of UNICEF USA
· Must be willing to travel domestically and occasionally internationally
