Serve as Managing Editor of The Reporting Project, Denison’s nonprofit news source.
Journalism @ Denison is hiring a managing editor for its nonprofit media source, The Reporting Project which covers Licking County, Ohio, and neighboring regions. We publish work by students, faculty, and community members. Our work is supported, in part, by the Mellon Foundation. In the last year, more than 70 stories and photos produced by our students were republished by The Newark Advocate, The Columbus Dispatch, Cleveland Plain Dealer, The Ohio Newsroom, Matter News, 100 Days in Appalachia, and other news organizations.
We are looking for a practicing journalist/storyteller with experience in at least one medium (writing, audio, multimedia) to supervise reporters, report, edit, coordinate publication of website and newsletter, foster relationships with local and regional publications, and build on our work to bridge the college and community through empathetic journalism. Our Journalism major is rooted in the liberal arts so a willingness to support and mentor student journalists as well as connect with faculty is a must. There are at least 4 paid student reporters each semester. To better connect with the college and share your expertise, you will teach one course a year in your area of focus. We seek someone willing to grow and develop with us as we build our capacity for news coverage and storytelling with a humanities-bent. A Master’s degree is a plus but not a requirement.
