Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of the Position:
- Lead an operations shift team to achieve safety, quality, and productivity performance.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Champion safety performance; Maintain and enforce all housekeeping and safety regulations
- Hold employees accountable for adherence to established procedures and performance metrics; Ensure awareness and compliance to changes
- Meet production level commitments through direction of employee efforts, planning, and organization of workflow; Maintain production priorities
- Review performance with team members at regular intervals
- Conduct employee performance reviews and provide coaching as needed
- Coach teams and provide guidance to support team development
- Ensure the protection of Corning’s Intellectual Property
- Maintain employee skill level consistent with the prescribed standard operating procedures
- On a daily basis, ensure that employees provide concise and accurate documentation and communication of variances in process, procedures, or production priority, along with corrective action taken
- Ensure appropriate first level troubleshooting steps are taken based on process feedback, checklists, and evaluation of loss code data
- Ensure cooperation with Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence Team in the implementation and evaluation of development experiments, as well as troubleshooting efforts
- Recommend improvements to process and/or equipment
- Maintain the systems and actions necessary to ensure compliance with department certification programs, quality System Audit Program, and ISO 9000 registration
- Participate on and maintain a trained spill team for the glass making areas; Conduct monthly spill drills
- Resolve personnel issues at the first level whenever possible; Utilize the 4-step discipline process as appropriate
- Ensure maintenance of accurate records of employee overtime and attendance using the Kronos system
- Actively participate in the training of new employees, conduct refresher training with experienced employees, and review/maintain training materials Projects involved with:
- Safety improvement, Lean manufacturing, Workforce development
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Technical Field; Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Ceramic/Materials Engineering strongly preferred with G.P.A. > 3.0; 1-3 years engineering and/or manufacturing experience; Supervisory experience preferred OR will consider 2-year technical degree / 4-year non-technical degree with 2+ years strong supervisory and leadership experience required; Manufacturing experience preferred.
