Marriage Preparation and Adult Formation Coordinator

Position Summary:

Engages, forms and accompanies adult Catholics under the Renew My Church initiative, specializing in the formation of young couples for married life. This role reports to the Director of the Office of Lifelong Formation and works closely with the Senior Coordinator for Adult Ministry to identify, train and support adult formation ministers, accompany adults through sacramental preparation and faith formation programs, and facilitate the PreCana marriage ministry, Adult Confirmation and other adult faith formation initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Accompany Catholic adults through the process of participating in core formation and sacramental programs, particularly the PreCana marriage ministry.
  • Recruit, form, support and evaluate ministers of the archdiocesan PreCana marriage preparation programming and other formation ministries, including Adult Confirmation and Baptismal Preparation.
  • Evaluate, develop and implement sacramental preparation and other adult formation content for the continued improvement of adult ministry initiatives of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
  • Conducts needs analysis, assesses and makes determinations as to the ministry needs and challenges and manages integration of, and alignment with these needs with the other ministries.
  • Promote PreCana, Adult Confirmation and other adult formation ministries within the Archdiocese and nationally.
  • Support and accompany parishes in implementing and developing adult formation ministries and sacramental preparation programs.
  • Provide logistical support for the PreCana and Adult Confirmation programs, including event calendaring and resourcing.
  • Understand, disseminate and respond to inquiries regarding policies and procedures for Marriage Preparation, Adult Confirmation and Baptismal Preparation.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on adult faith formation with all Archdiocesan agencies and with inter-departmental initiatives.
  • Design, coordinate and conduct necessary trainings, particularly for formation ministers participating in ministry team pilots.
  • Manages integration with Vicariate Coordinators in providing ongoing support and best practices to the pastoral areas where Adult Ministry must be improved, developed and organized.
  • Leads and participates in committees, projects, or initiatives as directed by Office of Lifelong Formation or Department of Parish Vitality and Mission.
  • Contributes to preparing, proposing, amending, and following the Ministry Team budget at the direction of the Office Director.
  • Increases skills and knowledge through continuing education, attending conferences and reading appropriate literature.
  • Performs other assignments and projects consistent with the responsibility level of this position.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry or related field of study from an accredited college or university, or equivalency.
  • At least three years of experience in formation, outreach, ministry and administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including persons with varied social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent communications and conflict resolution skills Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Power Point, Access and Publisher.
  • Must be an excellent communicator, detail-oriented and self-motivated. Able to respond effectively to change.
  • Ability to drive, carry materials and climb stairs; available to attend evening and weekend meetings if necessary.
  • Fully committed to the Catholic Church’s teaching on the Gospel message.
  • Must be a practicing Catholic and demonstrate understanding, respect and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values. Available for evening or weekend work.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,000.00 - $55,000.00 per hour
