Principal Field Application Engineer - Systems Solutions and Architecture

About Marvell

Marvell’s semiconductor solutions are the essential building blocks of the data infrastructure that connects our world. Across enterprise, cloud and AI, automotive, and carrier architectures, our innovative technology is enabling new possibilities.

At Marvell, you can affect the arc of individual lives, lift the trajectory of entire industries, and fuel the transformative potential of tomorrow. For those looking to make their mark on purposeful and enduring innovation, above and beyond fleeting trends, Marvell is a place to thrive, learn, and lead.

Your Team, Your Impact

At Marvell, our Connectivity technology is at the heart of the digital transformation powering the world’s most advanced data infrastructure. This team is responsible for enabling the seamless, high-performance networking solutions that hyperscalers rely on to deliver cloud services at scale. Without this team, Marvell would not be able to translate cutting-edge silicon innovation into real-world, deployable solutions that meet the rigorous demands of our largest and most strategic customers.

Our Field Applications Engineering (FAE) team bridges the gap between Marvell’s world-class engineering and the hyperscalers shaping the future of cloud computing. Every day, we work side-by-side with customers to architect, validate, and optimize solutions built on Marvell’s Connectivity technologies. From early design engagement to deployment and post-sales support, we ensure our customers can innovate with confidence and speed.

What sets this team apart is our deep technical expertise, customer intimacy, and the opportunity to influence the direction of Marvell’s product roadmap. Our team operates at the intersection of system architecture, software, and hardware—giving you a front-row seat to the evolution of cloud-scale networking.

The technologies we support are foundational to the digital experiences billions of people rely on every day—from streaming video and online gaming to AI workloads and enterprise applications. If you’ve ever used a cloud service, chances are it ran through infrastructure powered by Marvell —and supported by this team.

What You Can Expect

  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of cloud data-center architecture and deployment is vital to perform the duties of this Solutions Architecture FAE role. Serve as the subject matter expert on Marvell’s high-speed interconnect semiconductor solutions, including Optical DSPs, Coherent DSPs, and retimers. Apply deep knowledge of how these components are integrated into optical modules and Active Electrical Cables to support system-level solutions for hyperscale data centers. A strong understanding of signal integrity, link budgets, and module-level performance is essential.
  • Customer Engagement: Build and maintain strong technical relationships with hyperscaler and cloud infrastructure customers. Understand their system requirements and deployment challenges, and align Marvell’s optical and electrical interconnect solutions to meet their needs.
  • System Architecture: Act as a trusted technical advisor by articulating how Marvell’s semiconductor components enable differentiated performance in optical modules and AECs. Guide customers through the ecosystem of OEM and module vendors using Marvell silicon, helping them understand the value proposition and system-level advantages. Support design-in efforts by aligning Marvell’s technology with customer architectures and deployment goals, and drive adoption through strategic technical engagement.
  • Product Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date expertise on Marvell’s connectivity portfolio, including roadmap awareness for connectivity products. Provide guidance on product selection, integration, and interoperability.
  • Training and Documentation: Deliver technical training, product briefings, and hands-on demos to customers and partners. Create and maintain technical collateral including application notes, integration guides, and debug procedures.
  • Market Insights: Continuously monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to provide strategic insights and recommendations to Marvell's product development teams.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this Solutions Architecture FAE role, candidates must bring a solid foundation in networking technologies, customer-facing experience, and a strong aptitude for system-level problem solving. This is a senior level individual contributor role, ideal for someone who has already supported complex hardware or software solutions in the data center or cloud infrastructure space. This candidate must have a strong pre-sales skillset in this highly customer facing technical role.

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in system-level engineering roles within the networking, optical, or cloud data center industry.
  • 3+ years of experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as Field Application Engineering or Solutions Architecture
  • Deep understanding of optical transceivers (e.g., QSFP-DD, OSFP), retimers, and high-speed cable technologies (AECs, ACCs).
  • Familiarity with signal integrity concepts, SerDes tuning, link training, and compliance testing for 100G/200G/400G/800G+ links.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and ecosystems such as IEEE 802.3, OIF, and relevant MSAs (e.g., QSFP-DD, OSFP, CMIS) is a plus.
  • Experience supporting or integrating optical and electrical interconnects in a data center environment.
  • Proficient in lab tools such as BERTs, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers; scripting experience (e.g., Python) is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of semiconductor products, system architectures, and related technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain trusted relationships with customers.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across engineering, sales, and product marketing teams.
  • Flexibility to travel as needed to customer sites (primarily West Coast)

If you are a self-motivated and technically curious engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges and working closely with customers to define and deliver next-generation connectivity solutions, we encourage you to apply for the Sr. Principal Field Application Engineer position at Marvell Technology in Santa Clara, CA. Join a global leader in semiconductor innovation and help shape the future of cloud-scale networking.
