To perform work in the fabrication and repair of brick, tile, cement, stone and prefabricated structures.

Cut and lay brick, stone, tile, block and refractory materials in rows, in various designs and shapes, to build structures, including walls, floors, ladles, chimneys, flues and furnaces.
Spread mortar, position and align each unit of structural material.
Check alignment of installation or repair, using plumb bob and level.
Set and grout wall or floor tile, finish cement, perform stonework and tuck-pointing.
Coordinate and direct the work of construction laborers.
Caulk window and door casings and structural cracks.
Participate in the mixing, pouring, troweling and curing of cement, mortar or plaster.
Apply cement plaster.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications.
Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
Clean marble or stone surfaces using acids.
Cut openings into various types of masonry.
Install seamless floorings and other water proofing and decorative coatings.

This posting is for a project team supporting inpatient rooms and do-it-now workflow that will require daily reprioritization, a fast paced environment, and a collaborative team approach to completing work.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
