Senior Manager, Communications

Summary of Position:

The Senior Manager, Communications is someone who is passionate about storytelling and creating content, in both long and short form. This position will help drive public relations, media and marketing initiatives by weaving together compelling narratives that resonate with Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s (MassTech) various audiences.

Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MassTech) is a public agency focused on advancing technology statewide. The organization strengthens the competitiveness of the tech and innovation economy by driving strategic investments, partnerships and insights that harness the talent of Massachusetts. MassTech is comprised of six divisions: Broadband, Cyber, eHealth, Innovation, Manufacturing and the Northeast Microelectronics (NEMC) Hub.

This position is based in the Westborough, MA MassTech office with a minimum of two days a week in the office (preferably Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

Responsibilities:

  • Write and contribute to press releases, campaign copy, social media, scripts, ads, editorial, website, thought leadership copy and more. Produce case studies, reports and testimonials. Develop, execute and report on content campaigns.
  • Build relationships with media.
  • Maintain production, delivery and distribution plans in a multi-priority setting.
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications team to develop a communications messaging strategy and ensure cohesive messaging across all communications channels in partnership with the divisional and program teams
  • Oversee a team of two (events and public relations). Guide and mentor junior communications staffers in creating meaningful and influential content.
  • Help plan and attend events to support and represent MassTech in the community.
  • Implement new ways to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology and best practices.
  • Work collaboratively and in partnership with the rest of the Marketing & Communications team and the Executive Office of Economic Development.

Travel within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (often not accessible by public transportation) expected with occasional travel elsewhere in the United States. Estimated travel 20% of time.

  • Experience: 5 – 7 years of professional writing experience, preferably with a background in journalism and/or a degree in journalism communications, public relations, marketing or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills as evidenced by a portfolio that showcases the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Excellent writer with strong proofreading and editing skills.
  • Comfortable with AP Style usage.
  • Highly organized, clear thinker who can deliver deadline driven content.
  • Ability to align copy with tone and organizational strategy.
