Math Instructor for Summer Camps

AoPS Academy is a program of Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), a global leader in K–12 advanced education. AoPS is on a mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. Since 2003, AoPS has trained hundreds of thousands of the country’s top students through its online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. AoPS Academy offers unique problem solving curriculum at its in-person locations across the countryas well as through the virtual campus.

The AoPS Academy in Carmel Valley, CA, is hiring part-time summer Math Instructors to teach our summer camps and have a few different sections we are looking to cover. Please see below:

July 10-21:

  • Math Beasts Camp 3, 9-12 pm
  • Math Beasts Camp 5, 1-4 pm
  • Math Beasts Camp 7-8, 1-4 pm

July 24 - Aug 4:

  • Math Beasts Camp 6, 1-4 pm
  • Math Beasts Camp 5, 9-12 pm

We are looking for outstanding professionals to teach our engaging summer camp Math curriculum to small classes of high-achieving elementary, middle, or high school students.

Our instructors contribute greatly to the success of our students and are an integral part of our Academy family. This may be a great fit for you if you enjoy facilitating discussions in a collaborative and engaging student-led classroom, building relationships with students, and making a direct impact on how they learn and approach math.

Our classes challenge students to tackle difficult problems that are not replicas of problems they've already seen. This teaches students how to learn, so they'll be ready for the challenges of top-tier colleges and internationally competitive careers.

Job Duties:

You will use company-created materials to prepare for and teach advanced courses that focus on problem solving and critical thinking. This allows instructors to focus on the delivery of material. As an AoPS Academy Summer Math Instructor, you will:

  • Prepare for daily lessons created by our curriculum team.
  • Actively engage students in the course material throughout each class.
  • Expertly manage a classroom of up to 18 students.
  • Meet with students and families, as needed, during the 15 minutes before or after class.

Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field or Education, or equivalent experience, ideally related to math.
  • Must have experience teaching or tutoring students. Classroom teaching experience at the K-12 level is preferred. A formal teaching credential is not required.
  • Possess strong content knowledge in math with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts requiring critical thinking.
  • Expertly motivate and challenge advanced learners.

Location and Schedule:

As this is an in-person position at our San Diego/Carmel Valley campus location, candidates must be located in Carmel Valley or the greater San Diego area and must be able to commute to our campus. Please note that AoPS is following CDC guidelines.

During the summer, we offer multiple two-week camps between (July-August). Camp classes are held Monday-Friday for three hours a day, with both morning and afternoon classes. Instructors must be available to teach all 10 days of the camp they are assigned.

Benefits, Compensation, and Opportunity for Continued Employment:

The summer instructor rate at our Carmel Valley location is $37/hour. The rate includes flexible work time, 15 minutes early arrival immediately before class, actual class time, and the 15 minutes after class ends.

In order to be considered for this position you must be legally authorized to work in the US. We are unable to offer sponsorship, including STEM-OPT and H-1B.

Pay: $37.00 per hour

  • San Diego, CA 92130: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
