Project Manager

Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) is on a mission to discover, inspire, and train the great problem solvers of the next generation. Since 2003, we have trained hundreds of thousands of the country's top students, including nearly all the members of the US International Math Olympiad team, through our online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. While our primary focus has been math for most of our history, through the years we have expanded our unique problem solving curriculum into subjects, such as language arts, science, and computer science.

We are looking for a Project Manager to join our growing Project Management team. In this role, you will lead software projects from their conception through planning and execution, as well as collaborate with stakeholders about resource allocation and other high-level decisions for projects and processes executed by the software engineering teams.

Recent projects managed by our team:

  • A new online classroom for our AoPS Online School.
  • Conversion of the curriculum of our in-person AoPS Academy learning centers to delivery via videoconference.
  • An online system for major math competitions, which were all forced online by the pandemic.
  • Significant website infrastructure changes needed to launch our new AoPS Academy Virtual Campus.
  • New features for our Beast Academy Online learning system, including a Puzzle Lab and a Beast Builder.

You might be a good fit for this position if...

  • you've spent time working as a software developer, or working alongside software developers, and enjoy digging into the technical aspects of projects
  • you enjoy navigating ambiguity and establishing structure where there isn't any, and have a natural curiosity to dive into problems and uncover solutions
  • you are passionate about project management, have knowledge of and experience with various project management methodology, tools, and techniques, and are comfortable adapting your approach to best serve the projects you're leading
  • you are eager to learn more and share your expertise on best project management practices company-wide
  • you are excited to help us build innovative and engaging learning opportunities for motivated students in elementary, middle, and high school, as well as new tools for our staff to continually improve our ability to educate our students
  • you thrive in a collaborative environment and are able to offer and receive constructive feedback
  • you can effectively manage a changing workload, balance multiple ongoing projects, quickly adapt to change, and work independently with minimal management oversight

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 1-3 years of experience managing projects
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail, time-management, and multitasking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong leadership and interpersonal skills, to effectively collaborate with subject matter experts and teams across the organization
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to define situations, document data, and draw conclusions

Perks and Benefits:

This is a hybrid full-time position based at our headquarters in San Diego, CA. The full salary range for this position is $80- 100k, with a 4% year-end bonus.

  • Casual work environment
  • Hybrid work week with flexible schedule
  • Medical, Dental and Vision benefits
  • 401K plan with company match
  • Year-end bonus
  • Relocation bonus (if currently located outside of San Diego)
