Position Title: Process Engineer
Location: Munising, MI
Description:
The Munising Mill is actively seeking a Process Engineer with a strong history of work experience in a manufacturing environment. This role reports to the Munising Mill Specialties Department Operations Manager and is responsible for assisting with all manufacturing activities on our offline coaters, saturators, and finishing line at the site.
Munising’s Industrial Solutions business is a specialty paper business having a wide and unique range of technical products, equipment and process requirements and technologies. The incumbent must stay abreast of new equipment/operating technology, business direction and business strategies to assure consistency of effort and objectives between the mill and business team.
responsibilities:
- Exercise personal leadership to provide an environment that puts a priority on providing a safe and healthy workplace for employees and conforms to applicable local, state, and federal codes and laws governing loss control.
- Support mill wide safety efforts to reduce accidents/incidents:
- Promote incident reporting of all types (near miss, first aid, property damage, etc.) in areas of responsibility.
- Conduct planned inspections for assigned zone or guarding assessments as assigned.
- Complete assigned corrective actions from activities such as Incident Investigations and Planned Inspections in a timely manner.
- Ensure all safety rules and procedures are followed by EE’s in area of responsibility.
- Provide leadership to meet or exceed the metrics that will ensure conformance to all customer requirements.
- Develop and implement continuing cost improvement plans and programs as well as new capability development that ensures continuity and a competitive and profitable manufacturing facility.
- Relentlessly pursue the reduction of operating costs & maximum operating flexibility while maintaining a bias towards quality leadership.
- Position our assets to support growth initiatives through optimal balance of sustaining, cost saving and strategic capital spending. Assets (materials/inventories, equipment, personnel) properly managed, maintained and developed.
- Support Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Development and implementation of cost improvement projects that provide significant savings through reduced variability, improved quality, product substitutions and/or higher operating efficiencies.
- Carry out process improvement/optimization work including planning and supervising in-mill production trials.
- Support mill operations in evaluating operation of major equipment. Lead design of modifications required to ensure improved quality and higher operating efficiencies.
- Write technical reports that clearly document trials, process improvement results, and capture cause and effect relationships.
- Utilize process information systems to analyze production trends; assist in troubleshooting and identify possible improvements.
- Support development and execution of capital projects.
- Use of lean manufacturing principles to drive cost and quality improvements.
- Direct interaction with vendors to continually drive quality and cost improvements of purchased materials.
- Maintain effective communications and working relationships with operations, product development, suppliers, engineering, maintenance, IT, environmental, sales and marketing, research, and purchasing.
qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in a manufacturing environment required, experience in paper manufacturing is a distinct plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
- Aptitude to develop technical expertise and the ability to efficiently and accurately process a high volume of detailed workload.
- Excellent computer skills (including Excel and Word).
- Prior experience in initiating and implementing cost savings projects a distinct plus.
- Prior experience with lean manufacturing initiatives a distinct plus.
