Finance Support Specialist

McGrathNicol is a specialist Advisory and Restructuring firm, helping businesses improve performance, manage risk, and achieve stability and growth. 


Join our team as a Finance Support Specialist. You'll use your finance expertise to assist our client service team with queries. Your role involves overseeing project initiation, managing projects and billing, and handling daily cash allocation and accounts receivable tasks. Enjoy the variety this role offers, with no two days being alike.

What you will do
  • Handle customer project administration tasks such as setting up projects, reviewing quality, and assisting with onboarding.
  • Support project management by updating client details, reallocating resources, and adjusting rates when necessary.
  • Assist with customer billing inquiries, reconcile work in progress, prepare invoices, and process credit notes.
  • Provide guidance on project reporting tools, respond to reporting requests, and support staff with using dashboards.
  • Manage accounts receivable by addressing queries, allocating receipts, and reconciling transactions.
  • Aid with month-end journals, participate in system testing, and provide support to senior Finance team members.


Who you are
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, particularly Excel, with experience in a similar role within professional services would be highly desirable.
  • A basic understanding of accounting principles relevant to professional services (including unbilled WIP and debtors).
  • Experience with working in accounting systems, exposure to SAP desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to think critically and troubleshoot.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload whilst adhering to established processes.
