Location(s): Pickering, ON, CA, L1W 4A7

Shifts(s): Days: Monday-Thursday 7:00am-3:30pm Friday 7:00am-1:00pm

Travel: Up to 10% - Durham Region

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the First Line Manager, the Project Technician - Mechanical will be working within the Field Engineering department, which performs duties supporting safe operation of our nuclear facilities while focusing on quality control inspections, work planning assessments, liaising with project stakeholders, supporting contract partners and oversight of field activities.

The role of Project Technician - Mechanical is responsible for checks and tests, drawings and code interpretation, report writing, quality inspections and quantity measurements to ensure assigned systems/facilities are installed and functioning in accordance with design specifications, satisfying the requirements of the applicable Codes and Quality Assurance (QA) program.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations.
  • Support station with work planning, assessing, inspections and site walk downs.
  • Maintain Quality Assurance program and all aspects of Quality Control (QC) and Quality Surveillance (QS) programs ensuring all QA procedures are satisfied. Assigned duties will encompass office and field elements.
  • Review and become familiar with applicable drawings, specifications, procedures and codes involving assigned systems. Assist in the resolution of constructability, installation/modification issues.
  • Provide advice to and liaise with project stakeholders, and external suppliers with on such items as material specifications, material deficiencies, and substitutions facilitating successful project implementation.
  • Schedule adherence meeting established milestones are critical to safe operation of the station.
  • While overseeing contractor activities at the workplace. Verify contractor progress and report deviations from approved Inspection & Test Plans schedules to appropriate supervisor for resolution.
  • Accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others.
  • Accountable for maintaining minimum training requirements while being mentored with experienced staff, potential for radiological work as an ARW (Atomic Radiation Worker).

EDUCATION

  • Minimum High School Diploma plus 2-year technician/technology college diploma in mechanical engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience as a Mechanical technician;
  • Comfortable working at heights, confined spaces and wearing radiation protective equipment executing assigned duties.
  • Ability to read & understand construction drawings;
  • Advanced skills and working knowledge in MS-Office (Particularly Excel and Access); strong knowledge in data management is a bonus. Visio and Asset Suite 7 experience is an asset;
  • Work as part of a team in a fast paced, dynamic environment, with tight deadlines and expected high level of detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to prepare effective documentation and establish collaborative internal and external relationships;
  • Mechanical - Experience with piping systems pressure boundary codes/governance, and welding, NDE techniques and HVAC experience is an asset;
  • Days based organization, but flexibility required to work shifts and weekends as necessary.
