Child Safety Specialist

Your Role at MediaLab

As a Child Safety Specialist, you will join MediaLab’s growing team of in-house moderators, specializing in keeping our platforms safe for users. You will help review both proactively detected and user-reported content, using keen judgment and subject-matter expertise to identify violations of our policies from our ever-growing community platform. Because of the nature of Trust & Safety work, you should be ready and able to review content that may be considered objectionable or distressing. Working in this area requires a high degree of emotional resilience and the ability to handle sensitive content and situations at scale; however, our team has taken comprehensive measures to ensure the well-being and support of all team members who engage with challenging content.

What You’ll Do
  • Review abuse reports of content across the broad spectrum of online child endangerment, such as child sexual abuse and exploitation
  • Respond to escalations from team members and third-party moderators
  • Identify and escalate new issues and trends, taking the initiative to investigate, define, and strategize solutions.
  • Work directly with the third-party tool and service providers to onboard services and manage the ongoing quality of external processes, resources, and tools for content moderators
  • Support the creation and adoption of new internal resources, including reference articles, training, and documentation of new and updated workflows
  • Identify, scope, and deliver projects that will enhance existing workflows; support cross-functional policy, process, product, and research projects in partnership with Legal, Support, Product, and Engineering teams

What We’re Searching For
  • 2+ years experience working with sensitive content, including issues such as child safety, sales of illegal content, and other abuse areas, with deep expertise in child safety policy enforcement areas preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Familiar with supporting a policy lifecycle process, from policy inception through release and ongoing maturation
  • Ability to prioritize and execute competing objectives, both for yourself and others working with you
  • Successful track record supporting and driving change management initiatives across teams
  • A capacity to both build, maintain and grow ongoing cross-functional partnerships at all levels of the company.
  • Experience in training development, including both developing materials and delivering them to teams
  • Fluent in English, though additional language proficiencies are a plus
  • Flexibility to regularly work evening and weekend shifts as well as some holidays
