Medical Coding Specialist

As a Medical Coding Specialist at Headway, you will work directly with our Insurance Operations team to ensure coding excellence through claims evaluation and by working with our product team to make compliant coding easier for the providers on the platform. You’ll also connect with our Customer Experience, Provider Growth, Clinical, and Compliance teams to act as a “subject matter expert” on coding and proper documentation. You’ll be an integral part of maintaining the quality of care patients receive on the platform, and helping providers new to insurance feel confident in their ability to bill their sessions.

You will:

• Work alongside compliance and clinical teams to audit provider note samples and coding behaviors
• Collaborate with our Customer Experience, Provider Growth, and Insurance Ops teams to make the provider coding + documentation experience the best it can be
• Design processes with Insurance Ops to address coding-related denials through communication with providers and error resolution with our payer partners
• Advise our product team in designing clinical oversight tools to help make compliant coding easier

You will love this role if:

• You have a CPC certification. Experience or further education with Psychiatric/Behavioral health coding is ideal
• You have worked in Medical Coding for at least 3 years, with limited oversight.
• You are deeply familiar with ICD-10 coding, CPT coding, and documentation standards for both commercial payers and Medicare
• You are excited to use your expertise to build new processes
• You have a drive to understand how and why things work
• You have experience with reviewing others’ work for Quality Assurance
• You enable others to code excellently by communicating coding/billing concepts to non-experts.
