Job Title:
Medical Records Specialist
Role:
Provides clerical support pertaining to medical records.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Audits and processes all assigned paper items daily; prepares and maintains detailed medical
records, files, reports, and other correspondence. Pulls and delivers charts each day on a stat and/
or regular basis. Answers and controls medical records phone lines and directs messages to appropriate area. Releases medical information to attorneys, insurance companies, hospitals and other physicians
within legal parameters. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements:
1. Answer phone and returns voicemails within a timely manner, directing to appropriate party as required.
2. Maintain patient confidentiality to highest standards.
3. Maintain a positive and professional attitude with co-workers.
4. Observe legal restraints with regard to release of medical information.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience One to three years of similar or related experience.
Education A high school education or GED.
Interpersonal Skills: Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally
regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may
require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (customers
or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
Other Skills/Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for
prolonged periods of time, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to
stand, walk and use hands to operate a standard computer keyboard. The employee may
occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment Medical office environment with limited exposure to patient care area's. Duties are mostly
performed within the non-clinical / administrative areas of the practice.
