Macalester College seeks to hire a Full-Time Medical Assistant to work in the Laurie Hamre Center for Health and Wellness. This position will provide professional, quality medical care to patients and quality support to medical providers in the Health & Wellness Center. The Medical Assistant will assist providers in patient readiness procedures and education. The incumbent will perform routine administrative, lab, and patient care supportive duties in a Health & Wellness Center medical practice to assist medical staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the office runs smoothly.
This 0.90 FTE position has the option to work 33.75 hours a week all year long or work 38.75 hours mid-August to mid-May (academic year) and 25 hours mid-May to mid-August (summer break).
Responsibilities:
- Rooms patients, obtains vitals and medical information, and prepares electronic chart for provider
- Performs basic lab procedures, collects specimens for processing, maintains lab according to standards, enters information for lab vendor and electronic medical record, and implements lab policies
- Autoclaves instruments, maintains/cleans/preps and stocks patient rooms, assists with vaccination clinics and maintains the supply of medications and supplies needed for clinic
- Contributes to overall Hamre Center activities, including attending all staff meetings and student affairs department events
- Performs other duties as assigned, patient referrals, office or clerical work, and occasional assistance to front desk or admin team
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of related experience
- Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required
- Associates Degree in Medical Assisting preferred
- CMA(AAMA) or RMA(AMT) certificate required
- Experience performing lab procedures
- Ability to gather and use data to inform practice and programs
- Demonstrated ability to successfully oversee inventory of lab and medical supplies
- Proficiency with data entry
- Knowledge and experience with electronic health record interface and computer interface with lab
- Demonstrated ability to document and communicate pertinent information
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as required
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work respectfully with sensitive and confidential information
Compensation:
This 0.90 position non-exempt position offers an hourly wage of $21.68.
