Meeting Street Schools (MSS), a unique network of five schools across South Carolina, was founded in 2008 on the belief that all students can achieve at high levels and deserve the opportunity to receive a high-quality education, regardless of their socio-economic background. It is our belief that a student’s zip code should not determine a student’s access to quality educational opportunities. At Meeting Street Streets, we believe in a holistic approach to student development and work to provide the experience and resources that facilitate student success in the classroom and beyond.  To provide this, we make a twenty-year commitment to students and families, from early childhood education to college access support and scholarships.

The Role

Our school goal is that 100% of students meet their growth targets and we want to ensure that all students are working at or above their grade level expectations by the end of the year. We are looking for a certified educator who has at least five years of experience in math instruction or math intervention. This role will focus on individual, customized instruction specifically designed to target student's specific academic growth in math. MSS interventionists combine the ability to motivate and educate, to develop academic as well as character skills, and to make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future. MSS interventionists have a growth mindset and participate in rigorous professional development throughout the year, including: collaborative planning sessions, whole and small group school-wide focus professional development, team analysis of performance data and other personalized opportunities for teachers to grow.


Responsibilities
  • Actively takes a productive role in the cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development of all children in the school
  • Commits to constant professional and personal growth through reflection, feedback, and collaboration
  • Models MSS’ Path to Success skills and supports the development of those skills in students and peers
  • Maximizes learning, productivity, independence, collaboration, and joy through effective organization of space and materials
  • Uses positive teacher language and creates and maintains a classroom climate that embraces a sense of belonging, significance, learning, productivity, collaboration, and joy 
  • Supports with building a positive school-wide culture, seeking opportunities to interact with families and communities, contributing to school events and traditions, norms, and reinforcing behavior expectations across the school
  • Applies deep knowledge of content, pedagogy, child development, individual students, community, and cultural norms to teaching
  • Creates robust, outcome-based intervention plans that sequence and scaffold learning to maximize student growth; creates engaging, rigorous lesson plans that achieve supporting targets for long-term goals; uses MSS instructional framework with fidelity.
  • Uses the collective understandings of the multidisciplinary teaching team to increase student outcomes
  • Effectively selects and designs powerful assessment tools to monitor student progress; responds to data by frequently revising plans and regrouping students; effectively communicates feedback to students and progress to families and school leaders
  • Exercise clear judgment and integrity in decision‐making; foresees the ripple effect of decisions, intended and unintended consequences; able to make kind and expedient decisions with the benefit of students at the forefront
  • Participates in all school-wide staff functions and events such as parenting workshops, report card conferences, back-to-school-nights, student outreach, professional development, etc. to build a positive school culture and a strong home-school partnership
  •  Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to kneel, sit, stand for long periods of time


Educational Background and Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred 
  • Active teaching certification in Elementary Education, required
  • A minimum of two (2) years of successful experience working with students from under-served communities, preferred
  • Minimum five (5 ) years of certified elementary teaching experience, required
  • Ability to lift 40lbs, kneel, sit, or stand for long periods of time


The salary for this position begins at $49,000 and is competitive and commensurate with experience.
