Project Engineer - Water Resources

The Project Engineer will be expected to participate in the development and preparation of engineering data in support of various water resources and environmental engineering projects.


The Project Engineer will work with limited supervision of senior engineers, and as a team member with project managers, water resource engineers, GIS Analysts, Hydraulic Modelers, Structural Engineers and Design Managers. Responsibilities will be focused around providing Operations and Emergency Response support. This support will require the expedited, proactive management of various activities simultaneously.


These activities may include Standard Operating Procedure development, stakeholder, Interagency, and Interdepartmental coordination. Additional tasks may include site investigations, field measurements, utility investigation, conditions assessments, and administration of various tasks in support of Operations. 


What you will do:
  • Read and interpret project drawing and specifications, provide material take-offs, formulate construction cost estimates, and prepare proposals. 
  • Provides technical support for a variety of water related projects, including storage facilities, pump/booster stations, water transmission and water distribution systems 
  • Utilize basic engineering principles, judgement, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems. 
  • Perform work with little supervision. 
  • Propose approaches to solve new problems 
  • Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables. 
  • Record and interpret data, conduct analyses, prepare reports, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance during construction of repairs. 
  • Direct day-to-day program management activity on tasks associated with Operations and Emergency response support 
  • Develop, implement, and administer program management tools and other controlling documents. 
  • Develop, implement, and administer reporting tools for ongoing activities. Reporting may be necessary on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. 
  • Reading, understanding, and working with construction crews to follow project specific documents. 
  • Maintaining project files.

  • Reviews the written materials of others and provides feedback and coaching. 
  • Ability to interpret construction plans/drawings.  
  • Ability to use a computer, the Internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and email. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel. 
  • Ability to work safely in a construction environment. 


Your background:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • 3-8 years of related experience in water/wastewater utility planning, operations, and experience working with public entities.


$80,000 - $115,000 a year
The actual base pay depends upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
