Mission Graduates is a nonprofit organization that increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco's Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. We work towards fulfilling our mission through a wide range of support services that serve over 4,800 children, youth, and families each year.  Our vision is to transform the culture of our neighborhood so that college becomes the expectation for Mission families, rather than the exception. 


Program Summary: As the lead partner for Mission High School’s College & Career Program, Mission Graduates oversees the development of a higher education-going culture and offers a wide range of college & career services to all major stakeholders – youth, parents, the school staff, and partners. In addition, organizing and supporting Future Center-focused events and activities. These efforts occur as part of an embedded interdisciplinary team with case management, mentoring programs, and alumni support services. 


Position Overview: The Mission High Student Success Coordinator (SSC) is responsible for working collaboratively within Mission’s academic departments with the wellness, newcomer support, and College & Career teams. The EL SSC is also responsible for data tracking and program evaluation to ensure the program meets desired programmatic outcomes.  The EL SSC should be a self-motivated individual who knows the Mission community, has a strong social justice analysis, is bilingual in Spanish, and has a passion for working with teens.  The EL SSC will work closely with English language learners and newcomer students and their families to support them throughout high school. The SSC position requires someone who is highly organized and pays attention to details.


Key Responsibilities & Primary Duties:
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and culturally responsive learning environment, positively reinforcing community expectations. 
  • Maintain high expectations for all learners and find and build on students' strengths. 
  • Model consistent expectations, routines, and procedures that are increasinglyaligned with the goals of Mission High School & Mission Graduates.  
  • Model a growth mindset, learning alongside students and colleagues. Support student mastery of rigorous, standards-based, high-leverage masterytargets for each academic course while implementing the SFUSD Core Curriculum.
  • Support student mastery of SLOs: literacy and communication, collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking, reflection and growth mindset, and commitment to community and self. 
  • Support quality group work that helps all students achieve high levels of learning, with a focus on group-worthy tasks, frequent feedback on norms and roles, assessment of group and individual products, and status treatments (increasing over time). 
  • Build relationships with a caseload of students by embedding in MHS classes to develop academic expectations, socio-emotional skills, and attendance. Leverage community partner services to provide holistic resources and referrals to students and families.
  • With the support of the Program Director, develop a student tracker system to monitor students' progress in the following areas: academic (grades), attendance (family phone calls), and interventions. 
  • Provide tiered attendance support: call home for every second absence; call home to celebrate attendance improvements; analyze weekly attendance data; participate in team meetings to consult with teachers and counselors about specific students. 
  • Build intentional relationships with youth and families through individual check-ins, phone calls, home visits, and other activities.
  • Making connections outside of the academic setting to build trust (e.g., attending student extracurricular events, chaperoning field trips).
  • Attend professional development training and workshops hosted by SFUSD, Mission Graduates, and other relevant agencies to develop further the Student Success Coaching model at Mission High School. 
  • Facilitate Summer Program classes or workshops about college access success and readiness.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English speaker required.
  • A strong passion for educational and social equity.
  • Understanding of youth development principles.
  • Passion for working with children and youth and a willingness to explore alternative, non-institutional teaching methods are essential.
  • Must relate effectively to diverse communities and demonstrate an understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations.
  • Strong oral and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Candidates must be flexible, well-organized, and able to take initiative.
  • Current CPR certification (or attained within 2 months of employment).
  • TB test clearance is mandatory before hiring.
  • Some weekends and evenings are required.


$22 - $25 an hour
Benefits Package:  Includes fully paid Medical, Dental, and Vision for the employee; access to Pre-Tax Commuter Benefits, as well as access to 403(b) account at the time of hire. We also offer an employer contribution for eligible staff* (eligibility to be explained at the time of hire). In addition, we offer 13 paid holidays per year, as well as 8 personal hours per year, and accrue PTO (vacation and sick).
